YouTube Star Kate Albrecht in Coma After Rare Birth Complication
Kate Albrecht's Terrifying Health Scare: The YouTube Star Wakes Up from Coma After Suffering Eclampsia
In a shocking turn of events, Kate Albrecht, the popular YouTube personality behind the channel Mr. Kate, has revealed that she ended up in a coma just two weeks after giving birth to her second child, Mars. The 37-year-old influencer, who is known for her natural childbirth experiences and unfiltered vlogs, had been experiencing symptoms of postpartum preeclampsia, but doctors initially dismissed her concerns.
Kate, who welcomed baby number two at home with the help of a midwife on May 22, had opted for a natural birth experience without medical intervention. Her first child, Moon, was born via C-section, but this time around, she wanted to challenge herself and go for a natural childbirth. After nearly 24 hours of labor, Mars arrived safely at home, followed by a checkup at the hospital where Kate received stitches due to a tear during labor.
However, just two weeks later, Kate began experiencing severe headaches and pain in her back area, which she initially brushed off as part of the postpartum recovery process. But things took a turn for the worse when she suffered a seizure while taking a nap at home with her newborn daughter and a family friend.
Her husband Joey Zehr, who was away at a party with their five-year-old son Moon, received a frantic call from their friend and rushed back home to find Kate "unconscious" and bleeding from her mouth. He called 911, and paramedics arrived quickly to find Kate in the midst of a seizure.
"I was like, 'What's going on?' And they're like, 'You have eclampsia,'" Joey recalled, his voice filled with worry and relief.
Eclampsia is a rare condition that can develop up to six weeks after childbirth, according to Mayo Clinic. If left untreated, it can cause seizures and other serious complications. Kate was intubated upon arrival at the hospital and placed in a medical coma.
Joey shared that he spent the night by Kate's side, anxiously awaiting updates on her condition. The next day, Kate awoke and began breathing on her own. She was transferred to the ICU, where she spent several days recovering from her ordeal.
As Kate regained consciousness, doctors discovered a blood clot on one of her kidneys, which had caused the pain she experienced in her back. But despite the terrifying health scare, Kate is grateful that her family, including baby Mars and Moon, are safe and healthy.
On Instagram, Kate shared an update with her fans and followers, saying, "I know a lot of you have seen the [thescholarlynote.com] article and have been worried and sending your love and we are so thankful for you! We are OK!"
Kate also revealed that she will be sharing a raw and real birth video on their YouTube channel (link in bio), which has already racked up over 3.79 million followers. The couple is now working on a second video to share the rest of their story.
As Kate recovers from her ordeal, she is determined to turn this experience into a positive one. She said, "I'm trying to make this into a positive, trying to find the positive in this horrendous experience."
The Creative Weirdo family, as they are affectionately known by their fans, has been through quite an adventure, and we can't wait to see what's next for this inspiring couple.
