WWE Legend Ric Flair Faces Cancer Battle Again: A Second Diagnosis in Three Years
Ric Flair Battles Cancer... Again!
In a shocking revelation, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has confirmed that he's been diagnosed with skin cancer - for the second time in just three years! The 76-year-old wrestling legend, known for his signature strut and limousine-ridin', jet-flyin' lifestyle, will be undergoing treatment next week.
But here's the juicy part: Flair initially tried to keep this devastating news under wraps by denying it on X (formerly Twitter) just two days ago. Talk about trying to keep a secret! However, in an exclusive chat with People magazine, he finally came clean about his diagnosis.
"I'm facing cancer again," Flair revealed, his voice laced with determination. "It's the second time in three years that I've been dealing with skin cancer. But I'm ready for this fight." And we're rooting for him all the way!
Flair's health woes are no secret. The 16-time world champion has been open about his struggles with a range of issues over the past decade, including kidney failure, heart problems, and even being placed in a medically induced coma for 11 days back in 2017.
"I was on life support," Flair recalled, his voice cracking with emotion. "I had a 20 percent chance of surviving, but I fought back." And what a fighter he is! After undergoing surgery to remove an obstructed piece of bowel, Flair made a remarkable recovery and even returned to the ring.
But his health issues don't end there. In 2019, he was rushed to the emergency room after suffering a "very serious" medical emergency. He later underwent successful heart surgery at an Atlanta hospital. And let's not forget about his long-standing battle with alcoholic cardiomyopathy, a condition caused by prolonged alcohol abuse.
"I had one vice," Flair confessed in his book, "Ric Flair: To Be the Man." "I'm not going to point my finger at anybody else. My vice was drinking. I didn't have any pain issues, addiction problems, marijuana, cocaine - nothing like that. It's a fact that I kept myself up all night and always had a good time."
Now, you might be wondering about his personal life. Well, Flair married his fifth wife, Wendy Barlow, in 2018, but the couple parted ways in September last year. When announcing their separation, Flair expressed gratitude to his partner for being by his side throughout his health crises.
As one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, Flair has cemented his status as a wrestling icon. With 16 WWE world championship titles under his belt (yes, you read that right - 16!), he's the only WWE Superstar to have been inducted into the Hall of Fame twice!
But before we get too caught up in his illustrious career, let's take a trip down memory lane. Flair's early days in wrestling began back in the late 1960s when he participated in interscholastic wrestling, football, and track as a high schooler in Wisconsin.
By 1972, he was already making a name for himself in theatrical wrestling. And it wasn't long before "The Nature Boy" rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with the WCW and WWF (now WWE). He headlined Wrestlemania VIII in 1992, cementing his status as one of the greatest.
Flair's legacy continues to inspire a new generation of wrestlers. His daughter, Charlotte, is now a major WWE star and frequently performs alongside her dad. And let's not forget about his son Reid, who tragically passed away from a drug overdose in 2013.
As Flair faces this latest health challenge, we can't help but think about the resilience and determination that has defined his life. We're sending all our love and best wishes to "The Nature Boy" as he begins his treatment next week!
