Tyler Perry’s Shocking Financial Stand: Cutting Off Family for Responsibility
Tyler Perry Spills The Tea: How He Fired His Own Aunt for Being Unprofessional!
In a shocking revelation, Tyler Perry, the 55-year-old entertainment mogul and billionaire producer, opened up about his personal experiences with nepotism on the popular YouTube show Den of Kings. And let's just say, it gets real!
Perry sat down with host Kirk Franklin, a 20-time Grammy winner and Gospel music icon, along with guests Derek Hayes and Jay 'Jeezy' Jenkins, to dish about what it means to be a boss. And boy, did he have some stories to tell!
Apparently, Perry's aunt came knocking on his door, asking for a job after he told her that she couldn't just live off his wealth without contributing in some way. "She would always call asking for money, and I'd send it to her," Perry revealed. But things took a turn when Perry offered his aunt a position at one of his companies.
Unfortunately, according to Perry, the job didn't quite work out as planned. His aunt kept showing up late or not showing up at all! And when Perry had to let her go, she assumed that their family connection would protect her from the consequences. But Perry wasn't having it!
"I told her, 'Listen, I want to help you build this thing, but not be welfare to you.' So, I fired her personally," Perry recalled. "I said, 'Well, you gotta go, because you want me to hand you the money, but you don't want to work for it.'"
This jaw-dropping anecdote highlights just how tough Tyler Perry can be when it comes to family and business. And it's not the only story he shared during the interview!
Perry also revealed that after his mother Maxine passed away in 2009, he had a major epiphany about the importance of hard work and self-sufficiency. He told multiple relatives who were relying on him financially that they needed to start looking for jobs within 60 days or risk losing their support.
"I'm not going to keep supporting you like that," Perry said sternly. "You need to find a job, something else to do, feel some pride in." And guess what? Some of them actually took his advice and started working!
But it's not all about being tough on family members; Tyler Perry is also a devoted father to his 10-year-old son Aman, whom he shares with Ethiopian model-activist Gelila Bekele. He wants his son to understand the value of hard work and humility.
"I don't believe in giving us things that are just going to handicap us – that's the worst thing you can do," Perry emphasized. "I want my son to learn how to be independent, to work for what he wants."
And speaking of learning valuable lessons, Perry revealed that his family has a unique approach to teaching their son about humility. Whenever Aman complains about flying commercial and having to deal with long lines, his parents remind him that they're not exempt from the same rules.
"So he understands, I worked; he did not – so when he works, he can learn that lesson," Perry explained. "He's not gonna be one of those ridiculously spoiled rich kids – he ain't got no money!"
As the owner of the lucrative Madea film franchise, which has raked in over $660 million at the box office and beyond, Tyler Perry is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. And his personal stories only add to his reputation as a shrewd businessman and devoted father.
