Ty Burrell's New Chapter: From Phil Dunphy to Utah Life!

Modern Family star Ty Burrell has 'no regrets' about taking a step back from the spotlight

MODERN FAMILY STAR TY BURRELL SPILLS THE TEA ON HIS LIFE AFTER FAME

It's been three years since Modern Family came to an end, and Ty Burrell has been enjoying a blissful life in Salt Lake City with his family. The 57-year-old actor, who played the lovable but goofy dad Phil Dunphy on the hit sitcom, has revealed that he has "no regrets" about stepping back from the spotlight.

In an exclusive interview with People, Ty gushed about his decision to leave Los Angeles and move to Utah with his wife Holly. The couple relocated to raise their two adopted daughters, Frances and Greta, in a more laid-back environment. "It's just been spectacular," Ty said, beaming with happiness. "We moved here right after [Modern Family] ended, and I don't have any regrets. It's been lovely and a great place to raise the kids."

But it wasn't always easy for Ty to adjust to his new surroundings. As an outdoorsy person at heart, he had to get used to the idea of being seen as "pretending" to be someone who loved nature. "My parents weren't really those kinds of people," Ty explained. "So at first, when we moved here, it almost felt like cosplay, like we were pretending to be people who were outdoorsy, and now we really truly love it."

Ty's comments come as a surprise to fans, given his previous absence from the cast reunion in November 2023. The photo of him held by his co-stars, complete with a caption saying "We miss you, Ty!", sparked rumors about his well-being. But, as it turns out, the reason for his absence was far more innocent than anyone could have imagined.

In March, Ty proved he's very much alive and well on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's on Me podcast. When asked about the reunion and the photo of him held by the cast, Ty joked that he "died" (as in, he had a surgical procedure). But it was just a cover-up for his actual reason for missing the event: surgery! "The only photos I had of me missing were me in the hospital from surgery," Ty confessed.

Ferguson, who hosted the podcast episode, shared some juicy behind-the-scenes gossip about the reunion. According to him, the cast included a photo of Ty as a joke, his least favorite press photo featuring him in headphones and giving a heavy metal sign with his hand. "We brought a photo of you to include you in all the family pictures and we were like, 'well yeah it does sort of look like we were having a memorial for you,'" Ferguson quipped.

Ty playfully teased that he was being punished for missing the reunion, saying "You were basically punishing me for missing the reunion, which I deserved." It's clear that Ty is still on good terms with his Modern Family co-stars, and they're all happy to have him back in their lives – alive and kicking!

As we know, the Modern Family cast reunited earlier this year at the 2024 SAG Awards. The six main adults from the show – including Ty, Jesse, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ed O'Neill, and Eric Stonestreet – presented an award together. When asked about the reunion on his podcast, Ferguson jokingly said that it was all a ruse to reassure fans of Ty's well-being.

It's been over three years since Modern Family wrapped up its 11-season run, yielding an impressive 250 episodes. The show, which premiered in 2009, followed the lives of a blended family and became a beloved favorite among audiences worldwide. It's no wonder that Ty Burrell has found a new sense of purpose in his life outside of the spotlight.

With his loving family by his side, it seems that Ty has finally found his perfect match – both on-screen and off!
