Trump Denies Colbert Cancellation: Who’s Next in Late Night Limbo?

President Donald Trump has denied rumors he is the reason Stephen Colbert 's long running talk show was axed while simultaneously issuing a chilling warning to Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon

SHOCKING SHOWDOWN: Trump Denies Axing Stephen Colbert's Late Show, But Warns Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon They're Next!

In a scathing takedown, President Donald Trump has denied rumors that he was behind the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's iconic late-night talk show. However, in a bizarre twist, Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Sunday to issue a warning to Colbert's fellow hosts, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon.

The bombshell news comes after CBS announced earlier this month that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would be coming to an end in May 2026, following a $16 million settlement with the Trump Organization. Trump had publicly celebrated the axing of Colbert's show, sparking whispers that he was involved in the decision-making process.

Colbert's decade-long stint as the host of The Late Show will come to an end in May after CBS canceled the program following a $16million settlement with Trump

But in a statement on Truth Social, Trump vehemently denied these claims, saying: "Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night. That is not true." He then proceeded to trash Colbert's hosting skills, claiming that the show's low ratings and high production costs were the real reasons behind its cancellation.

"Colbert's deficiency in talent was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses," Trump wrote. "And it was only going to get worse! The reason he was fired was pure lack of TALENT."

But the drama doesn't stop there! Trump went on to single out Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, warning that they could be next on the chopping block. "The next up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel," Trump wrote. "And then, a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon." He then posed the question: "Who will go first?"

Trump went on to warn that both Kimmel (second from right) and Fallon's (right) jobs could now be on the line

This shocking showdown has left fans of late-night TV stunned. With Colbert's long-running show coming to an end in May 2026, it seems that the writing is on the wall for Kimmel and Fallon as well.

Colbert Fires Back at Trump

But Stephen Colbert isn't going down without a fight! In response to Trump's scathing comments, Colbert took to his own show to fire back at the President. "How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?" Colbert quipped. "Go f* yourself."

He wrote on Truth Social on Sunday that he was not 'solely responsible'

Colbert also hit back at Trump's claim that Kimmel could follow him out the door. "Nope, no, no," he said with a smirk. "Absolutely not. Kimmel, I am the martyr. There's only room for one on this cross. And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!"

The Ratings Game

So, what really led to the cancellation of The Late Show? According to CBS executives, it was a purely financial decision, driven by plummeting revenue and production costs. But Trump's statement suggests that there may be more to the story.

Colbert said Kimmel could not also lose his job, telling crowds: 'Nope, no, no. Absolutely not. Kimmel, I am the martyr. There's only room for one on this cross. And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!'

In a bizarre twist, Trump offered some advice to Kimmel and Fallon on how to avoid the same fate as Colbert. "Show Biz and Television is a very simple business," he wrote. "If you get Ratings, you can say or do anything. If you don’t, you always become a victim."

It seems that Trump's own experience with reality TV may have come back to haunt him. After all, his show The Apprentice was canceled in 2016 after 15 seasons.

The Fallout

He then cut to various famous people in pairs on the 'kiss cam,' including CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and Bravo stalwart Andy Cohen, who pretended to make out. Adam Sandler and Happy Gilmore co-star Christopher McDonald, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers and John Oliver and Jon Stewart also appeared

As the drama unfolds, it remains to be seen how Kimmel and Fallon will respond to Trump's warning. Will they take a page from Colbert's playbook and fire back at the President? Or will they try to distance themselves from the controversy?

One thing is certain: with this shocking showdown between Trump and Colbert, late-night TV will never be the same.
