Tragic End for So You Think You Can Dance Winner Joshua Allen
SHOCKING TRAGEDY ROCKS THE DANCE WORLD: Joshua Allen, So You Think You Can Dance Winner, Dies at 36
In a devastating turn of events, Joshua Allen, the charming and talented winner of season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance, has passed away at the young age of 36. The news of his untimely death has left the dance community reeling in shock and sadness.
Just hours before his passing, Allen took to Facebook to pay a heart-wrenching tribute to one of his closest friends, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who tragically drowned while swimming off the coast of Costa Rica on July 20. In a touching homage, Allen wrote: "The time I got the opportunity to work alongside my childhood idol. Malcolm you were so welcoming and humble... This is a memory that I will always hold, dear to my heart."
But what's even more remarkable about this story is the incredible journey of Joshua Allen himself. From his early days as a reality TV star on So You Think You Can Dance, where he won over $250,000 and captured the hearts of millions, to his subsequent rise to fame in Hollywood, Allen was a true rags-to-riches story.
But beneath the glittering facade, Allen's life wasn't without its challenges. In 2016, he made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he was arrested for domestic violence against an ex-girlfriend. He pleaded no contest and received a one-year jail sentence, five years' probation, and a year of domestic violence counseling.
Despite this dark chapter in his life, Allen's friends and colleagues remember him as a kind and genuine person who always spoke his mind. "He was a very honest, real person," said Emmanuel Hurd, a close friend. "He didn't always do things the way that everybody thought he should, but that's why he was a winner."
One of the people who knew Allen best is Stephen "tWitch" Boss, the runner-up on So You Think You Can Dance season 4 and a close friend of Allen's. Tragically, Boss also passed away in December 2022 at just 40 years old by suicide.
Allen's relationship with Boss was one of the most fascinating aspects of his life. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he revealed that they were "really happy for each other" and considered each other two of their closest friends on the show. Allen even said that he and Boss had a unique bond: "We would always be together, whether it was at the auditions or during filming."
As for his rise to fame, Allen's journey began in 2008 when he auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance alongside his friend Comfort Fedoke. Despite having no formal dance training, Allen's natural talent and charisma shone through, and he went on to win the competition.
But what many people don't know is that Allen worked tirelessly behind the scenes to hone his craft. In an interview, he revealed: "I took a few modern dance classes, ballet classes, because I felt that to be a better dancer I would have to take different classes, and expand my horizons in the art of dance... I really wasn't that technically trained. I would just try to take classes in the summer, and when it was school time I would take class, run track, play football."
This dedication paid off, as Allen went on to land roles in blockbuster movies like Step Up 3D (2010) and Footloose (2011), as well as TV shows like Community and American Horror Story. His success was a testament to his hard work and perseverance.
As the news of Joshua Allen's passing sends shockwaves through the entertainment industry, fans are left to mourn the loss of a talented young man who touched so many lives. Rest in peace, Joshua.
