Sydney Sweeney's Transformation for Boxing Role: Gaining 30 Pounds!
SYDNEY SWEENEY TRANSFORMS INTO BOXING LEGEND CHRISTY MARTIN: ACTRESS GAINS 30 POUNDS AND ROCKS A NEW LOOK
In a shocking transformation, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has revealed that she packed on the pounds to play boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. The actress, known for her stunning looks and curves, shocked fans with her new physique as she channeled the former super welterweight champion.
Sweeney, 27, spent four hours a day, six days a week working out for three months before production began on David Michôd's film. The intense training regime included weightlifting, kickboxing, and weight training, which left her with a completely new body shape.
"I didn't fit in any of my clothes," Sweeney confessed to the Wall Street Journal in an exclusive interview. "I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, but I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger, and my butt got huge – it was crazy!"
The actress's dedication to her craft is evident as she transformed into Martin, who was known for her fiery personality and impressive boxing skills. Sweeney donned a brunette curly wig, blue bandana, and baggy clothing to complete the look.
In pictures from the set, Sweeney covered up her famous curves in a brown shirt, blue hoodie, and joggers, and wore minimal makeup. The transformation is nothing short of astonishing, with fans taking to social media to praise Sweeney's dedication to the role.
But what makes this biopic even more intriguing is the story behind Martin's life. Known as "The Coal Miner's Daughter" due to her father's job in a small town in West Virginia, Martin's career was marked by controversy and tragedy. She was credited with putting women's boxing on the map after taking on Deirdre Gogarty at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1996.
However, Martin's life away from the ring was marred by domestic abuse. Her husband, James "Jim" Martin, who was also her trainer, stabbed and shot her multiple times in a brutal attack in 2010. Martin survived the assault but suffered long-term trauma.
In a shocking twist, Jim Martin was sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted second-degree murder and manslaughter. Martin has since spoken out about the abuse she suffered and has become an advocate for survivors of domestic violence.
The biopic, which is set to be released soon, will not only showcase Martin's incredible boxing career but also highlight her bravery and resilience in the face of adversity. Sweeney has said that she is honored to be playing such a complex and inspiring character.
"I want this movie to bring awareness to domestic violence, the challenge of sexuality, and overall underdog story," Martin said about the film. "I am a coal miner's daughter from a small town in southern West Virginia who made an impact in a sport that wasn't taken seriously – women's boxing."
Sweeney has praised Martin for her courage and determination, saying: "She is young, hot, talented, and I think she is going to make a movie that in 20 plus years, fathers will watch with their daughters to make them aware of domestic violence."
The biopic promises to be an unmissable drama that not only showcases Sweeney's acting chops but also sheds light on the importance of women's boxing and the struggles faced by those who dare to step into the ring.
