Survival and Strength: Pregnant Wife of NBA Star Survives Shark Attack
SHOCKING SHARK ATTACK ROCKS NBA STAR'S FAMILY: PREGNANT WIFE SPEAKS OUT ON HORROR
In a jaw-dropping turn of events, the pregnant wife of Italian NBA sensation Danilo Gallinari has opened up about her harrowing shark attack in Puerto Rico. Eleonora Boi, expecting their third child, was swimming with their two young kids when she became the victim of a terrifying predator.
"I have to say, I'm traumatized," Boi confessed to ABC's 'Good Morning America' in an exclusive interview. Her eyes still haunted by the memories, Boi recounted the gruesome incident like it was yesterday. "I felt a strong pain, and my thigh was burning, but my idea was, 'Maybe it's a huge jellyfish.' But in the reality, it wasn't a jellyfish."
Her initial shock turned to panic as she realized the severity of her situation. "I started crying and screaming and I was screaming for help in Italian," Boi said, still shaking with fear.
Meanwhile, Gallinari, 37, witnessed the attack from a distance but quickly sprang into action. Rushing towards his wife, he pulled her to safety on the beach before a brave bystander helped apply pressure to the wound using a clean towel. "She was an angel," Boi gushed about the unidentified woman who saved her life.
"I just want to say thank you to this woman because I don't know her name, and I just want to say thank you to her, because she helped a lot," Boi expressed her gratitude.
The NBA star's quick thinking and bravery undoubtedly saved his wife from further harm. However, the medical team had to ensure the unborn child was safe before undergoing surgery on Boi's wounds.
"The doctors told us it would take hours to confirm that everything is okay with the baby," Gallinari revealed. "But finally, after they gave us confirmation that the kid was OK and nothing happened to him, then they started the surgery process."
Fortunately, the medical team confirmed that the pregnancy was unaffected by the traumatic event.
Physically, Boi is expected to make a full recovery, but mentally, she's still grappling with the trauma. "I have to be honest, it's not easy, because when I remember, I'm still scared - and, you know, it's difficult," Boi candidly admitted.
Gallinari, known for his philanthropic work off the court, reassured that he's there to support his wife through this challenging time. "I think that the body in this situation recovers faster than the mind, and that's something that, you know, you don't have to be ashamed of or scared of," he said compassionately.
The Gallinari family is no stranger to the limelight, with Danilo following in his father Vittorio's footsteps. The elder Gallinari was a pro basketball player himself and even teamed up with West Virginia-born Mike D'Antoni, who later became the son's NBA coach.
Danilo's impressive 14-year NBA career has seen him play for several top teams, including the New York Knicks, where he was drafted sixth overall. He currently plays in Puerto Rico, where he won a league title with Vaqueros de Bayamón.
As Boi prepares to give birth in November, this terrifying shark attack serves as a poignant reminder of the unpredictability of life. The Gallinari family's bravery and resilience will undoubtedly continue to inspire fans worldwide.
