Superhero Downfall: Dean Cain Calls New Superman Reboot a 'Woke' Flop
EXCLUSIVE: Dean Cain Spills the Tea on the New Superman Reboot - and it's a Whole Lot of Woke!
Get ready for some juicy gossip, folks! The original Superman from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, none other than Dean Cain himself, has come out swinging against the new DC superhero reboot. And trust us, he's not holding back!
The 58-year-old actor, who donned the iconic cape back in the '90s, recently spoke to TMZ about his concerns over the film's woke direction. "How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?" Cain asked, clearly unimpressed with the changes.
For those who may be living under a rock, the new Superman movie stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, directed by none other than James Gunn. And let's just say, Cain is NOT impressed with the film's immigration allegory or its attempts to reframe Superman's identity through a modern lens.
"It's like they're trying to make Superman into some kind of immigrant story," Cain said, shaking his head. "We know Superman is an alien! He's not an immigrant!"
But that's not all - Cain also took aim at the film's decision to swap out Superman's classic motto, "truth, justice, and the American way," for a more woke phrase: "truth, justice, and the human way." Talk about rewriting history!
"I don't think it's a great idea," Cain said. "If you want to create a new character, go ahead and do that. But for me, Superman has always stood for 'truth, justice, and the American way.'"
And let's not forget about the backlash against Rachel Zegler's Snow White reboot - another example of Hollywood rewriting iconic characters to fit modern narratives. Cain wants to know: "How much is Disney going to change their Snow White? Why are they going to change these characters to exist for the times?"
The criticisms don't stop there, folks! The Daily Beast (thescholarlynote.com) slammed the film as "the Final Nail in the Grave for the Superhero Genre," calling it a "migraine of a movie" with a muddled script and flimsy character arcs. Ouch!
Even The Times (thescholarlynote.com) wasn't kind, handing Gunn's film a dismal two-star review and dubbing it an "indigestible mush." The paper did find some bright spots, however, praising David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel.
As for Gunn's efforts to reframe Superman through a modern lens? Forget about it! Cain is having none of it. "We know Superman is an immigrant - he's a freaking alien!" he quipped.
Stay tuned for more updates on this drama-filled saga, folks!
