Sunny Hostin's Shock: Why Is Diddy Still Behind Bars?
DIDDY'S DAY OF JUDGMENT: SEAN "DIDDY" COMBS FACES 20 YEARS IN PRISON, BUT HOSTIN SAYS HE SHOULD BE FREE TO GO HOME!
The drama-filled trial of music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has finally come to an end, and the verdict is in. However, the real controversy is just beginning as Sunny Hostin, a host on the popular daytime talk show The View, has weighed in with her opinion that Diddy should be set free pending sentencing.
On Monday's episode of The View, Hostin, 56, expressed her dismay at the judge's decision to keep Diddy behind bars. "I will say having been a federal prosecutor, I am a little dismayed by the fact that the judge kept Sean Combs in prison," she stated, clearly perplexed by the judge's reasoning.
When asked by co-host Whoopi Goldberg why Hostin thought it was unfair for Diddy to be held in jail, she replied, "He said because there was proof of domestic violence that he was, you know, that society couldn't be protected from him." Hostin then went on to explain her argument: "I just think that's the wrong thing. It's not a flight risk because all you have to do is figure out how to keep that person here in the United States."
She continued to rant about why Diddy shouldn't be behind bars, stating, "You take away the passport, [have a] very, very hefty bond, you can also take away his plane, get an ankle monitor." Her logic, however, didn't quite fly with everyone on social media. One Twitter user wrote, "You lost me Sunny. Diddy needs to stay his a** in jail," while another added, "Sunny is disappointed that the judge decided to keep Diddy in jail. Smh."
Despite the backlash, some fans were quick to defend Hostin's opinion, praising her for speaking out against what they saw as an unfair decision. One fan tweeted, "Sunny Hostin of the #TheView was spot on as regards the outcome of Diddy's trial."
However, Hostin isn't just concerned about Diddy's current situation; she also believes he will be hit with a hefty sentence when the time comes. "The government is going to ask for four to five years, the defense is asking for two years," she predicted confidently. "He's been in prison already for 10 months. He's been a porter, cleaning bathrooms." Hostin's prediction may not be far-fetched, considering that prosecutor Maurene Comey stated that the government will indeed seek a maximum sentence of 20 years.
But what about Diddy's chances of getting pardoned? Whoopi Goldberg slyly pointed out that he could potentially get a pardon from none other than former President Donald Trump. Ana Navarro quickly chimed in, "He could get pardoned by you know who but he also could probably face many, many civil lawsuits." It seems like Diddy's still got a long road ahead of him.
The drama doesn't end there! When the verdict was read, Diddy couldn't help but express his relief and joy. He put his head in his hands and dropped to his knees when "not guilty" was announced for the racketeering conspiracy charge - and he did a subtle fist pump when "not guilty" was announced for the second of the two sex trafficking charges.
As for now, Diddy will remain behind bars until October 3, when his sentencing hearing takes place. Will justice be served? Or will he get off scot-free? Only time (and his lawyers) will tell.
