Stephen Colbert Takes Aim: Trump's Emmy Void in Late Show Mockery
EMMY SHOCKER: Colbert Rubs Trump's Nose in It as He Wins Big, But Will This Be His Last Dance?
In a scathing takedown of Donald Trump, Stephen Colbert gloated over his Emmy win on Tuesday night, leaving The Donald looking like the ultimate loser. The Late Show host took home the coveted award for Outstanding Talk Series, and boy, did he rub it in Trump's face.
As Colbert held up the shiny statuette, a beaming smile plastered on his face, he poked fun at Trump's lack of Emmy wins during his time as a TV host. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome one and all! Welcome to The Late Show... I'm sorry, let me correct that: Welcome to the Emmy Award-winning Late Show!" The crowd went wild, chanting Colbert's name in adoration.
But it was what came next that really got under Trump's skin. "Speaking of Emmys, uh, Donald Trump doesn't have one," Colbert snickered, sending the audience into hysterics. And why should he? Trump's show, The Apprentice, flamed out after seven seasons on NBC, losing out to The Amazing Race not once but twice in 2004 and 2005.
The irony is rich: Trump had ranted about the Emmys being "rigged" and a "con game," claiming that he was robbed of his rightful award. But Colbert isn't having it. In fact, he's been having a field day with Trump's antics all season long.
But there's more to this Emmy win than just a little schadenfreude. As Colbert accepted the award, he also took the opportunity to thank his 200 staff members for their hard work in making The Late Show possible. Little known fact: CBS announced plans to cancel the program next year due to financial struggles – or so they claim.
Industry insiders say that the real reason is much more sinister. With a reported $40 million loss per annum, it's no wonder Trump was over the moon when he heard about the cancellation. "I love it!" he tweeted on Truth Social. "Colbert got fired! His talent was even less than his ratings!"
But Colbert isn't one to go down without a fight. He'd previously slammed CBS' parent company, Paramount Global, for paying Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. "A big fat bribe!" he called it on the show.
Three days later, CBS announced that they would be cancelling The Late Show in May 2026 – or so we thought. In reality, the network claimed it was just a "financial decision." We all know what that means: Trump's deep pockets got the best of them once again.
Colbert took over as host of The Late Show from David Letterman back in 2015. But until Sunday night, he'd never won an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series – not on his own show, at least. He'd previously won nine Emmys for his work on The Colbert Report and as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
And let's talk about the elephant in the room: Trump's own ratings have always been laughable compared to those of late-night hosts like Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and even Jon Stewart. But hey, at least he's got his Twitter followers – or so we thought.
The cost of producing The Late Show is a whopping $100 million per annum, but don't worry, folks, Colbert is reportedly paid handsomely for his services: between $15 million to $20 million annually. And it looks like that money will be well spent – at least until next year.
But one thing's for sure: this Emmy win won't be the last time we see Stephen Colbert shine on national TV. Will CBS come crawling back when they realize what a mistake they made? Only time (and Trump's ego) will tell.
