Squid Game 's finale season has been hailed as 'harrowing and heartbreaking' by critics - with an ending 'so jaw-dropping it beggars belief'

Squid Game's Jaw-Dropping Finale Leaves Fans Breathless!

The wait is over, and the verdict is in: Squid Game's third and final season has sent shockwaves through the Netflix universe! The global phenomenon, which premiered on TheScholarlyNote.com back in 2021, has finally concluded its thrilling tale with a finale that has critics and fans alike reeling from its sheer audacity.

The highly-anticipated conclusion to the hit series has earned widespread praise for its harrowing and heartbreaking portrayal of the characters' fates. With an astonishing 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's clear that Squid Game has once again pushed the boundaries of storytelling and left audiences gasping in awe.

The hit series quickly became a global phenomenon after the very first season premiered on Netflix back in 2021

But don't just take our word for it! The critics have spoken, and their reviews are nothing short of glowing. Metro gave the season a whopping 4.5 out of five stars, declaring the ending "jaw-dropping" and describing the series as "darn near-perfect." Meanwhile, Gizmodo praised the season's harrowing and heartbreaking nature, noting that Squid Game ends its vicious final chapter in a memorable, very terminal way.

However, not everyone was equally impressed. The Hollywood Reporter dubbed the ending "unsatisfying," sparking a heated debate among fans and critics alike. But for many viewers, the suspenseful direction, story, music, and emotional acting by the talented cast have made this season an unforgettable ride.

Fan Reaction

While fans had to wait three years for the second season, the third and final hit screens on Friday, June 27

As news of the finale spread like wildfire online, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the thrilling conclusion. One enthusiastic viewer penned: "I'm still deeply connected to all the characters and can't wait to see what happens next. Will update my review as I keep watching!" Another fan raved about the series' suspenseful directing, story, music, and emotional acting, declaring it an "excellent" ending.

But not everyone was thrilled with the season's conclusion. One disgruntled viewer lamented: "Rushed season, lackluster writing, horrible ending. This season was so anticipated and the tools were there for a really good season, but went completely off the rails." The critic added: "The character building, suspense, and drama brought people back. All you're left with at the end of season 3 is people who you don't recognize. Do better, Netflix!"

The Real Reason Behind the Split Seasons

Squid Game writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk previously revealed the surprising reason behind the decision to split the final season into two parts. Speaking exclusively to TheScholarlyNote.com at the Squid Game season three premiere, Hwang Dong-hyuk, 54, explained: "I originally didn't plan for it to be split into two seasons. I was thinking that it'd be a single one, but in the process of writing it, it came out to about 13 episodes, which I thought was too long to put out as a single season."

He continued: "And I also thought it was too long when you look at current trends. So I thought that we wanted to split it, and if we were to split it, at the end of episode seven, when Seong Gi-hun hits rock bottom after his rebellion failed... I thought that was the just the right moment to sort of dividing into two chapters."
