Spooky Streaming Scares: Netflix Pulls Iconic Horror Films Before Halloween

Netflix has confirmed it will axe a huge string of legendary horror movies just weeks before Halloween [Saw II]

HORROR MOVIE MADNESS: Netflix Axes Iconic Films Just Weeks Before Halloween

In a shocking move, Netflix has announced that it will be removing a massive collection of legendary horror movies from its platform just as spooky season is about to kick off. The streaming giant confirmed that the axing of these iconic titles will begin at the end of September and continue into October, leaving fans of the genre in a state of panic.

The Saw Franchise Sliced Away

Among the first to be taken down are the first three installments of the renowned Saw franchise [Leigh Whannel in Saw]

Among the first to be chopped are the first three installments of the renowned Saw franchise. Yes, you read that right - all three movies in this terrifying trilogy will no longer be available to stream on Netflix. For those who haven't seen them (what's wrong with you?!), the first film follows two men as they realize they've been trapped by a sadistic killer who delights in making them complete agonizing tasks in order to live.

The Cabin In The Woods Canned

But that's not all - Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Connolly's critically acclaimed horror movie, The Cabin In The Woods (2012), will also be leaving the platform. This cult classic has been a favorite among fans of the genre for years, but it seems Netflix has decided to show no mercy.

Happy Death Day Duo Departing

The Happy Death Day franchise will also be saying goodbye to its Netflix audience. Both films in this series, which stars Jessica Rothe as a college student who's trapped in a time loop, will be removed from the platform just weeks before Halloween.

Sinister Slaughtered

Also to be removed is The Cabin In The Woods (2012), starring Chris Hemsworth (R) and Kristen Connolly (L)

Meanwhile, Ethan Hawke's chilling performance in Sinister (2012) and its sequel will no longer be available to stream on Netflix. This critically acclaimed horror series has been a staple of the genre for years, but it seems all good things must come to an end.

Us Removed from Platform

And if you're one of the many fans who fell in love with Jordan Peele's Us (2019), you'll be disappointed to know that it will no longer be available on Netflix. This thought-provoking horror movie was a game-changer when it first hit theaters, and its removal is sure to leave fans feeling... well, us-less.

More Horror Movie Cuts

Other iconic horror movies set to disappear from the platform include Scream VI (2023), The Unholy (2021), and even some beloved cult classics like The Faculty (1998) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). It's a horror movie lover's worst nightmare come true!

Comedy Series Cut Down

Although spooky season is right around the corner, some beloved cult classics will no longer be available to view [Sinister]

But it's not just horror movies that are getting the chop - Netflix has also announced that several comedy series will be removed from its platform. Among the casualties are:

  • The first season of A House of Blocks
  • Beyblade Burst Surge
  • Celebrity Gogglebox (yes, those celebrities love to goggle at TV shows!)
  • Ray Winstone's Sicily (who knew the actor was a secret Italian foodie?)
  • Supernatural Academy (no, it's not about wizards and witches - it's actually about... wait for it... supernatural animals!)
  • RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars
  • RuPaul's Drag Race
  • Titipo Titipo

Shameless Shocks

And if you're a fan of the hit drama Shameless, you'll be devastated to learn that all 11 seasons will be removed from the platform. The show has been a favorite among audiences for years, but it seems Netflix has decided to end its run.

Goodbye, Original RuPaul's Drag Race

Longtime fans of the original season of RuPaul's Drag Race will also be heartbroken to learn that it will no longer be available on Netflix. It's like losing a piece of your soul!

But Wait... There's Good News!

With the removals come new arrivals and some exciting reinstatements, including the return of a fantasy blast from the past.

The Winx Club Makes Its Triumphant Return

Get ready to be transported back in time to the magical world of Alfea Fairy School with the announcement that Netflix will be bringing back the beloved fairy-based cartoon series The Winx Club. A new spin-off, titled The Magic Is Back, will launch on October 2nd and will bring to life new storylines and characters alongside the return of fan-favorite Bloom.

A New Generation of Fairies

The CGI production will follow Bloom and her friends as they face challenges and battles to defend their magical powers. According to a synopsis, "After enrolling at the prestigious Alfea Fairy School, Bloom meets the fairies who will stand by her side as she faces every challenge. Together they form the Winx Club: a group of young fairies who are ready to defend the Magical Dimension at any cost."

The Magic Is Back

This new series will also feature an original song performed by 13-year-old Virginia Bocelli, daughter of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. It's a match made in heaven!

Don't miss The Winx Club: The Magic Is Back when it premieres on October 2nd on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
