Sonja Morgan Spills All About Her Heartbreaking Split from "The Viking" and Why She's Focused on Comedy Now

In a tell-all chat with The Scholarly Note, Real Housewives of New York City alum Sonja Morgan opened up about her year-and-a-half long romance with the enigmatic "Viking," revealing that it was his family situation that ultimately led to their demise. As she embarks on her improv comedy tour, "Sonja In Your City," Morgan is ready to put the drama behind her and focus on making audiences laugh.

Morgan met "The Viking" while renting an Amagansett home during the off-season, but things took a turn when he went through a family situation that made it difficult for him to handle a relationship. The two had been together for over a year and a half, with Morgan admitting she was taken aback by his sudden change in behavior.

Morgan has remained in touch with several of her RHONY alums via their group chat, OG Beauties, which was named by Kelly Bensimon

"I just never had anyone ghost me before," Morgan confessed. "He went through a lot, and I don't think he could handle a relationship anymore because of his own personal situation." She added that despite their split, she's moved on and is focusing on finding someone who wants a future together.

The mother-of-one, 61, has been married once before to the late investment banker John Adams Morgan, whom she met at a party in 1998. They tied the knot two years later but divorced in 2006. Despite their split, Morgan says they remained close until his passing earlier this year.

"Marriage was never just about romance; it was about building a life together," Morgan reflected on her time with John Adams. "We didn't talk about children until we were married for two years." She also touched on the drama surrounding their divorce, stating that "they made it out like I was f**king around" but revealed it was due to circumstances beyond their control.

When asked if she's looking for love again, Morgan said she's not investing her time in anyone unless they show genuine interest in a future together. She wants someone who shares her vision of growing old together and building a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.

As she navigates the dating world, Morgan's fans will be able to catch up with her on stage as part of her improv comedy tour. With stops in Tampa, Florida, and Orange County, California, Morgan is ready to bring laughter and joy to audiences across the country.

In a separate interview, Morgan also opened up about her friendship with fellow Real Housewives alum Bethenny Frankel, Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, and Dorinda Medley. The group has been in touch since departing Bravo, even sharing a group chat called "OG Beauties" to keep each other updated on their lives.

"We're still hopeful for another chance to return to small screens," Morgan said of the group's plans for future projects. They've all reached out to different producers and are working together to create something special – possibly a show focusing on their lives in Florida, which would offer a fresh take on the traditional Real Housewives format.

Morgan also addressed the recent backlash against Bravo for allegedly fostering toxic environments on its shows. She acknowledged that anyone can be susceptible to behaving out of character when under pressure, but emphasized that it's not representative of how they live their lives in real-time.

"It's TV; it's for entertainment," Morgan explained. "I think anyone who went through COVID and had to live in tight quarters knows how you can have blow-ups being in each other's space." She also shared her own experiences with stage fright, jet lag, and traveling, which can bring out the worst in even the most well-intentioned people.

As for her personal life, Morgan made headlines earlier this year after landing in controversy over a $1k bill at the NYC restaurant Tucci. According to reports, she expected her meal to be comped but allegedly had a fit when told it wasn't on the house. However, Morgan claims she was having issues with her card and initially settled her bill within two days of the meal.

"I couldn't pay right then," Morgan said of the incident. "Said I'll pay you tomorrow... And then when I called, I didn't hear back till Monday, and they'd already gone to the press." She added that she's always a good tipper and proved it with a text chain showing her payment to the bartender.

In another saga making headlines, Morgan's Upper East Side townhouse was recently sold and converted into a sober living facility. Morgan revealed she had been approached by a similar organization prior to selling but declined due to concerns for her neighbors' well-being.

"I didn't wanna do that to my neighbors," Morgan explained. "I know all my neighbors! Who doesn't on the Upper East Side?" She added that the idea of transient traffic from sober living residents wouldn't be suitable for the neighborhood.

As she continues to focus on her improv comedy tour, Morgan says she's loving the freedom to shed her old identity and have fun on stage. "I know I've done that and I don't have to do that anymore," Morgan said with a smile. "So when I go on tour, if I want to do chair dances and make people laugh and talk about sex, I can do that."
