Sofia Vergara's Colossal Statue Unveiled: Fans React

Fans of Sofia Vergara were all left saying the same thing when her hometown unveiled 24ft-tall statue of her (pictured in September 2024)

SCANDAL IN BARRANQUILLA!

Sofia Vergara's hometown has just unveiled a 24-foot-tall statue of the global superstar, but fans are left scratching their heads - and not because they're impressed!

The colossal tribute to the Hollywood A-lister stands tall on the riverfront promenade of Barranquilla, Sofia's birthplace in Colombia. The gargantuan sculpture, created by renowned artist Yino Marquez, took seven months to complete and weighs a whopping 5.5 tons.

The sculpture was inaugurated on the riverfront promenade of the Colombian city of Barranquilla on July 1, the actress's 53rd birthday

But despite the grandeur, fans are left wondering if the statue is actually meant to be Sofia Vergara at all! When asked for their opinions on the matter, an astonishing 54% of people polled by TheScholarlyNote.com agreed that the sculpture doesn't bear any resemblance to the gorgeous actress. And it's not just us who think so - take a look at some of the scathing comments left by fans:

  • "Could be anybody, what a waste of money..."
  • "Looks nothing like her"
  • "Oh yeah, it looks exactly like her... NOT!!"
  • "I don’t see how anyone could recognise the face on that thing. When they mentioned Colombia in the article I assumed that’s who it was. While she is an absolute stunner at 52, that statue is an absolute miss. Horrible."
  • "The sculptor is not very good at faces, must have gone to the same art school as the guy who did Ronaldo."

Despite the backlash, Barranquilla's Mayor Alejandro Char stood by the statue, praising Sofia for her dedication to her hometown and her unchanging accent.

The enormous tribute to the Hollywood star stands at 7.5metres (24' 7') tall and weighs a whopping 5.5 tonnes (865 st)

"She never stopped being one of us - she never changed her accent," he gushed. "She's always stayed true to herself: her spirit, her joy, her determination. And look where it’s taken her – so far!"

This is not Marquez's first rodeo, folks! The same artist is responsible for the Shakira statue, which was unveiled last December and became infamous for a spelling mistake on the plaque.

We can't help but wonder what Sofia herself thinks of the tribute. After all, she does live in a Tuscan-style mansion in Beverly Park, Los Angeles, USA - far removed from her humble beginnings in Barranquilla. Will she be thrilled with the honor or would she rather have a more... flattering representation of herself?

It was created by renowned sculptor Yino Marquez, who spent seven months working on it in his workshop and was assisted by six young students and graduates of a local art school

Only time will tell, but one thing is certain - this scandalous statue has everyone talking!

However, fans were left less than impressed claiming that the statue looked nothing like her with some saying it looked more like Jessica Rabbit
