Scarlett Johansson has revealed how she fought her way out of the Hollywood 'sex symbol' box, saying she was once cast purely for her looks

SCARLETT JOHANSSON EXPOSES THE SECRETS BEHIND HER HOLLYWOOD RISE TO FAME AND WHY SHE FINALLY ESCAPED THE "SEX SYMBOL" BOX!

Get ready for a juicy scoop, folks! The one and only Scarlett Johansson is spilling the beans on her tumultuous journey in Tinseltown. In a candid chat with The Sunday Times, the Black Widow superstar, now 40, revealed how she fought tooth and nail to break free from the Hollywood "sex symbol" trap.

Scarlett's meteoric rise to fame began after Lost in Translation, when she was constantly offered roles that solely valued her physical appearance. But our feisty femme refused to play along! She turned down parts she deemed "deeply unfulfilling" and waited patiently for scripts that would allow her to showcase more than just her "desirability."

The two-time Oscar nominee has gone from playing the sexy love interest in rom-coms like He's Just Not That Into You (pictured here with co-star Bradley Walsh in 2009) to hard-hitting parts

And boy, did it pay off! Scarlett went from being typecast as the sexy love interest in rom-coms like He's Just Not That Into You to landing hard-hitting roles in Marriage Story, Under the Skin, and the Marvel franchise – which catapulted her to become the highest-grossing actress of all time with a staggering $14 billion at the box office!

But it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Scarlett faced intense pressure to conform to Hollywood's narrow expectations, leaving her feeling like she could become "irrelevant" at any moment.

"It was hard when you're a young actor," she confessed. "But at that time, I didn't have any children."

Despite once being typecast, Scarlett refused to play the game and revealed how she turned down roles she found 'deeply unfulfilling' (pictured in Marriage Story with Adam Driver as Charlie in 2019)

However, the talented actress refused to buckle under the pressure. She practiced patience and waited for the right opportunities to prove herself as more than just eye candy. And boy, did it pay off! Scarlett made her directing debut this year with Eleanor the Great, a drama inspired by her Jewish ancestors' experiences fleeing Poland and Russia. The film premiered at Cannes and earned a glowing four-star review from The Times!

Off-screen, Scarlett is now a proud mom of two – Rose, 10, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, and Cosmo, three, with Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost.

And speaking of new beginnings, Scarlett is set to star in the upcoming summer blockbuster Jurassic World: Rebirth, which promises to be the event of the season! The film hits theaters on July 2, featuring Scarlett as Zora Bennett, a skilled covert operations expert, alongside Wicked and Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey.

The second trailer for the movie begins with Scarlett warning her team about the dangers that lie ahead: "The theme park owners did experimental work. Leaving only the worst ones here." As they navigate the tropical island, they must safely obtain and bring back the genetic material of the most ferocious dinosaurs – made even more deadly after previous scientists experimented on them.

The movie is set half a decade after the 2022 Jurassic World Dominion film, which starred Bryce Dallas Howard alongside Chris Pratt, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill. The synopsis reads: "Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs... Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived."

Joining Scarlett on this thrilling adventure are Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, Ed Skrein, and many more! The film was directed by Gareth Edwards.

Scarlett appeared in Marvel's franchise in Black Widow that helped her become the highest-grossing actress of all time, with over $14 billion at the box office.

In a world where women often face immense pressure to conform to societal norms, Scarlett Johansson's journey serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration. As she continues to break barriers in the entertainment industry, we can't help but wonder what the future holds for this talented actress!
