GIANT SHOCKER: Russell Wilson Honors Late Dad on 15th Anniversary of His Tragic Passing

In a heartfelt and emotional tribute, New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson took to Instagram to honor his late father, Harrison Wilson III, on the 15th anniversary of his untimely passing. The poignant post is just one of many tributes that Wilson has made over the years to keep his dad's memory alive.

A Father-Son Bond Like No Other

Wilson's tribute came on the 15th anniversary of his father, Harrison III's, passing

Harrison Wilson III was a pillar of strength and inspiration for his son Russell, who has often spoken about how his father's words of wisdom guided him throughout his life. "My dad used to always tell me when I was young, 'Hey son, you need to check out this school,'" Wilson revealed in an interview with The Pat McAfee Show. "And that stuck with me, even after he passed away."

But what makes Wilson's story even more remarkable is the tumultuous time he experienced just 24 hours before his father's passing. In a stunning turn of events, Russell was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft, only to have his life turned upside down when his father passed away the very next day.

A Rollercoaster Ride of Emotions

Wilson's father inspired him to attend Wisconsin, which helped launch his storied NFL career

Speaking with The Denver Post, Wilson recalled the pain and anguish he felt after losing his dad. "It was one of the hardest days of my life," he said, his voice trembling with emotion. "The highest of highs next to the lowest of lows, all in 24 hours."

But what followed was a remarkable display of resilience and determination from Wilson. Despite being released from his scholarship at NC State, he refused to give up on his dreams. Instead, he transferred to Wisconsin, where he would go on to excel as a quarterback.

A Star is Born

The rest, as they say, is history. Wilson's incredible journey took him to the Seattle Seahawks, where he became one of the team's all-time greatest players. And now, at the age of 36, he's leading the New York Giants by storm.

But through it all, Wilson has never forgotten his roots or his dad's guidance. "When [my dad] passed away, I remember the next morning hearing like, 'The sun still comes up in the morning,'" he said. "No matter what we go through in life."

A Support System Like No Other

Wilson credits his family – including his wife Ciara and their children – for being his rock during this difficult time. "They're my support system," he said. "Especially when you're 1-of-32 guys... why would I be negative?"

As Wilson continues to make waves in the NFL, it's clear that his dad's legacy lives on through him. And with his Giants teammates by his side, there's no telling what heights this remarkable quarterback will reach next.

A Final Tribute

In honor of Harrison Wilson III, we'd like to leave you with one final quote from Russell: "Keep shining down on me, Dad. Love you! Still can see your smile today."
