Rick Springfield's Day on Today: From Singing Mix-Ups to On-Air Yawns!

During the show's second hour, Savannah Guthrie and Jenna Bush Hager belted out a song not written by Springfield at all, earning a reprimand from Roker and Melvin

EXCLUSIVE: Today Show Hosts Cringe-Worthy Fail, and Rick Springfield Saves the Day!

Get ready for a morning of embarrassment, folks! The hosts of the Today show are usually the ones bringing the excitement, but yesterday, they were the ones getting schooled in a major way.

The drama unfolded when co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, and Kaylee Hartung (filling in for Carson Daly) got pumped up about welcoming rock legend Rick Springfield to the set. But instead of singing his hit song "Jesse's Girl," they launched into an impromptu rendition of Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny." Yeah, you read that right – not even close!

Earlier on, another oversight that seemingly came at Springfield's expense also occurred

Al Roker, the show's beloved weather anchor, was quick to point out the mistake, quipping, "Very close!" Craig Melvin and Roker exchanged a knowing look, and we're pretty sure they were both thinking, "Oh no, did we just get punk'd?"

But wait, it gets even better! When Springfield finally arrived on set, he sat down with Roker, Melvin, and Jill Martin to chat about his latest tour and TV series. That's when Melvin decided to let out a massive yawn, catching everyone off guard.

Springfield, the consummate pro, picked up on it and playfully asked, "Am I boring you?" The room erupted in stifled laughter as Roker and Martin buried their faces in their hands, and poor Melvin was left looking like he'd just swallowed a golf ball whole!

The result was another awkward moment that the group looked to laugh off

Trying to save face, Melvin stammered out an explanation: "No, no – it was a cough!" But Springfield was having none of it, chuckling and saying, "It's early. Don't worry about it. I'll probably yawn too!"

We reached out to the Today show for comment, but as of press time, they had yet to respond.
