Richard Osman's Hidden Displeasure: The 'Unforgivable' Bogdan Twist

Presenter Richard Osman appeared to call for 'justice for Bogdan' a character (right, in the movie) who, in the source material, has a dramatically different storyline to the one presented in the film

THURSDAY MURDER CLUB FANS LEFT REELING AS AUTHOR RICHARD OSMAN DROPS BOMBSHELL ABOUT MOVIE ADAPTATION

In a scathing critique that has left fans of the Thursday Murder Club series reeling, author Richard Osman has hinted at his true feelings about a major plot twist in the movie adaptation of his bestselling novel. And it's not looking good for Bogdan, the Polish handyman who was at the center of the controversy.

A CRIME AGAINST LITERATURE?

In his latest writing newsletter, he seemed less than impressed at the cinematic arc for the Polish handyman in the amateur sleuth flick, who despite being revealed as the killer in both versions has very different motives

The film, directed by Chris Columbus and released on Netflix last month, took a drastic departure from the book's original storyline, leaving fans feeling betrayed and disappointed. And it seems that Osman is not happy about it either. In his latest writing newsletter, he seemed to call for "justice for Bogdan," a character who was butchered in the movie adaptation.

WHAT HAPPENED TO BOGDAN?

For those who may have missed it, the movie saw Bogdan confess to killing Tony Curran, one of the owners of Coopers Chase retirement home. But here's the thing: in the book, Bogdan's motive for the murder was entirely different from what was presented in the film. In fact, he killed Tony out of a desire for revenge after his friend Kaz was murdered by Tony's associate.

Thursday Murder Club viewers are fuming after the new Netflix adaptation made an 'unforgivable' change to Richard Osman 's beloved book series

A DRAMATIC DEPARTURE FROM THE BOOK

But that's not all - the movie also saw Bogdan confess to the crime, despite having no solid evidence against him. And as a result, he was arrested and effectively shut down as a character in any future sequels. This decision has left fans feeling frustrated and disappointed, with many taking to social media to express their outrage.

FANS SPEAK OUT

Writing on Reddit, several people demanded 'justice for Bogdan' - the Polish handyman brought to life on-screen by actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes - after his storyline was 'bizarrely' changed

On Reddit, fans of the Thursday Murder Club series were quick to voice their opinions about the movie adaptation. "I get the impression Richard Osman also isn't impressed with Bogdan's ending for the film after receiving his newsletter today," one user wrote. "Where the heading says #JusticeForBogdan."

OSMAN'S COMMENT

Osman's comments in his writing newsletter seemed to hint at his dissatisfaction with the movie adaptation, particularly when it came to Bogdan's character. "This is a book newsletter of course, and we'll all be aware of some of the 'differences' between the film and the first book (see the title of this newsletter) so I thought you'd especially like an exclusive peek at a section of the film which Chris Columbus had to cut," he wrote.

IS THIS THE END FOR BOGDAN?

But don't worry, fans - it seems that some viewers are still holding out hope that Bogdan will make a comeback in future sequels. "I think there was enough foreshadowing to suggest" Bogdan will be released from prison, one user wrote on Reddit. "He kept repeating it was an accident, so maybe some evidence will arise showing it was an accident or self-defence."

FANS ARE NOT HAVING IT

But for many fans of the series, this change is a deal-breaker. "One disappointment is enough for me," one viewer said. "I loved what they did with Bogdan in the books and I hate what they did to him in the movie." Another fan expressed their outrage on social media, saying: "You can't do my boy Bogdan dirty like that!"

A NEW PLOT TWIST?

And it seems that some fans are already speculating about the motivations behind the changes made to the movie adaptation. "It's pretty obvious that they're cutting Bogdan for Ron's son," one user wrote on Reddit. "I love Tom Ellis, but Bogdan is my favorite character in the book."

A CRIME AGAINST LITERATURE?
