Remembering Patricia Crowley: A 60-Year Legacy in Hollywood
SASSY LEGEND PASSES ON: PATRICIA CROWLEY LEAVES BEHIND A LEGACY OF LAUGHTER, DRAMA, AND LOVE
The Hollywood community is reeling with news of the passing of Patricia Crowley, the sassy and vivacious actress who lit up screens for over six decades. The lovely lady left us on Sunday, just two days shy of her 92nd birthday, leaving behind a treasure trove of iconic roles and a family who adored her.
Patricia's son, Jon Hookstratten, Executive Vice President of Administration & Operations at Sony Pictures, broke the news with a heart-wrenching statement: "My beloved mother has passed away due to natural causes. I'm still trying to process this loss." Our hearts go out to him and his family during this difficult time.
The actress's love life was as colorful as her on-screen personas! Patricia married Andy Friendly, an entertainment mogul in his own right, in 1986, and the two shared a blissful marriage until her passing. But before that, she was wed to Ed Hookstratten, a sports and entertainment attorney who represented none other than Elvis Presley (can you imagine the stories they must have swapped over dinner?).
Born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, Patricia hails from humble beginnings – her father was a coal miner! She defied expectations by pursuing a career in show business, enrolling at New York City's prestigious High School of Performing Arts. The talented young woman soon found herself on stage and on screen, modeling and acting in various productions.
Patricia's big break came in 1954 when she won the Golden Globe for New Star of the Year for her performances in Forever Female and Money From Home (starring the iconic Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis duo). It was only a matter of time before Hollywood came knocking!
With a career spanning an impressive six decades, Patricia Crowley left an indelible mark on television. Fans still swoon over her portrayal of Joan Nash in the classic sitcom Please Don't Eat The Daisies (1965-1967), where she played the lovable and lively wife of Jim Nash (played by Mark Miller) and their four rambunctious boys.
But that was just the beginning! Patricia went on to star in Hawaii 5-0, Columbo, and even landed a regular role in nighttime soap Dynasty (1986). Her character, Emily Fallmont, was at the center of a scandalous affair that threatened to upend her family – drama alert!
Patricia's other iconic roles include:
- Rebecca Whitmore in American TV series Generations (65 episodes)
- Mary Scanlon in Port Charles (251 episodes), where she played a sassy nurse
- Fan-favorite appearances on The Love Boat, Frasier, Fantasy Island, Charmed, and Friends
But it wasn't all smooth sailing – Patricia's personal life was also filled with drama! In 1986, she starred as Emily Fallmont in Dynasty, where her character's marriage to Senator Buck Fallmont (played by none other than a dashing William Schallert) was put to the test when an affair came to light. The drama had everyone on the edge of their seats!
Patricia's final appearance on screen was in 2012 for the movie Mont Reve, where she played Mrs Cottington – talk about going out with a bang! Her incredible career has left behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
As Patricia Crowley leaves this world behind, her family and fans are mourning the loss of an incredible woman who brought so much joy, laughter, and drama into our lives. Rest in peace, dear Patricia – you truly were a Hollywood legend!
