Ralph Fiennes Unleashed: How the Actor Went from Suave to Swoon-Worthy at 62
Ralph Fiennes: The 62-Year-Old Sex Symbol Takes Hollywood by Storm
It's no secret that Britain's finest export to Hollywood, Ralph Fiennes, has been leaving audiences and critics alike in awe with his impressive acting credits and dashing good looks. But the 62-year-old thespian has taken it to a whole new level with his latest role in the long-awaited zombie thriller sequel, 28 Years Later. Not only is he wowing viewers with his "vivid" and "scene-stealing" performance as Dr Ian Kelson, but his ripped physique is leaving everyone speechless.
Fiennes's transformation from a suave, quintessentially British heartthrob to a rugged and ripped Adonis has left fans around the world open-mouthed. His incredible body was first showcased in the 2024 Greek epic movie, The Return, where he played Homer's Odysseus. But it wasn't just his acting skills that earned him rave reviews – his physique stole the show.
So, how did Fiennes achieve this impressive transformation? According to his personal trainer, Dan Avasilcai, who works at the Muscleworks Gym in east London, the actor underwent a grueling diet and lifestyle overhaul. "We kept Ralph's workouts strict and safe, taking into account his age," Avasilcai revealed in an interview with The Times in April.
Fiennes dropped from 80kg to 73kg after maintaining a rigorous schedule of exercise that included waking up at 5:30am to hit the gym for weight sessions before doing cardio. He cut out booze and bread, snacking on sweets instead, and even dehydrated himself to enhance definition in his muscles.
In an interview with The Guardian, Fiennes revealed that he wanted his character to look like "a bit of old rope" – a reference to Odysseus's rugged appearance in the ancient Greek epic poem. "The script was clear: we had to show my body," he said.
But it wasn't just for the sake of the role that Fiennes went through this transformation. Avasilcai revealed that the actor is as dedicated to his fitness regime as he is to his acting roles, sticking to the plans set out by his trainer. "He would ask me 'Can you measure my body fat levels?' And we'd do it with callipers at the gym," Avasilcai said.
Fiennes's transformation didn't happen overnight. He began working with Avasilcai in 2023 and dropped to around five per cent body fat within a few months of observing the new plan. But it was The Return that prompted Fiennes's makeover, and he has since worked with his trainer throughout filming for Papal drama Conclave, which earned him an Oscar nomination.
In 28 Years Later, Fiennes plays Dr Ian Kelson, another weary character who has survived a zombie apocalypse – meaning he must look "strong and agile," according to Avasilcai. "A typical day in Ralph's fitness regime would be a 5:30am start to train for an hour, with a run at around 6pm," the trainer explained.
Fiennes's diet consists of high-protein meals using ingredients like salmon, eggs, and chicken breast, along with protein shakes and fruit. "The high protein diet was necessary to ensure Ralph, at 62, would have the energy to train and carry out long days on set without fear of injuring himself," Avasilcai said.
But it's not just Fiennes who is impressed by his transformation – his co-stars are equally stunned. Chi Lewis-Parry, Fiennes's 28 Years Later co-star, revealed how they bonded over lifting weights in between filming. "We go to the gym and work out together a lot," Lewis-Parry said in an interview with Variety.
As audiences and critics alike rave about Fiennes's performance in the zombie thriller, it seems his strict fitness regime has become a way of life. And who can blame them? With his ripped physique and dashing good looks, Fiennes is undoubtedly one of the sexiest stars in Hollywood today.
Fans have taken to social media to express their awe at Fiennes's new look, with some even joking about being "beyond repair" after watching him on screen. But it seems viewers are more than happy to be a little distracted by Fiennes's bulging biceps while enjoying the movie.
One viewer wrote: "Ralph Fiennes is ripped!!!! Ripped!"
Another joked: "I was very attracted to Ralph Fiennes in 28 Years Later when I should not have been. I am beyond repair."
As for critics, they're equally impressed by Fiennes's performance, praising him as "towering" in the role of Dr Kelson.
In conclusion, it seems Ralph Fiennes has well and truly taken over Hollywood with his ripped physique and impressive acting skills. And who can blame him? At 62 years young, he's looking sexier than ever – and we couldn't be more jealous!
