In a bombshell new memoir, Priscilla Presley is spilling all the juicy details about her late daughter Lisa Marie's tumultuous marriage to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. In an excerpt obtained by The Scholarly Note on Saturday, Priscilla reveals that she was not only shocked but also "appalled" when Lisa Marie told her about her whirlwind romance with Michael in the 1990s. And it wasn't just the fact that Lisa Marie was marrying a man who was nearly twice her age – Priscilla had serious reservations about Michael's intentions.
"I knew in my bones that Michael wasn't marrying Lisa Marie; he was marrying the Presley dynasty," Priscilla writes in her memoir, Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis. "He was looking for good publicity after all those child molestation allegations, and what better way to get it than by marrying into a legendary music family?"
Priscilla's concerns were not unfounded – Michael had been accused of child abuse just months before he started dating Lisa Marie. And while Lisa Marie believed in Michael's innocence, Priscilla was not convinced.
"The childlike innocence he projected was part of his public mask," she writes. "I think he had his sights set on her long before she realized it."
But what really got under Priscilla's skin was the way Michael seemed to be using Lisa Marie for publicity purposes. She recalls how he would constantly try to avoid her, preferring to spend time with children over adults during family gatherings.
"It was bizarre," Priscilla writes. "He was like a cat among dogs – always lurking in the shadows, waiting for his moment to pounce."
And what about their sex life? According to Priscilla, Lisa Marie told her that Michael was a bit of a novice when it came to intimate relationships. In fact, she claims that Michael even confessed to being a virgin before they started dating.
"He told me he was still a virgin," Lisa Marie allegedly said in an interview (though the original source is unclear). "I think he had kissed Tatum O'Neal, and he'd had a thing with Brooke Shields, which hadn't been physical apart from a kiss. He said Madonna had tried to hook up with him once, too, but nothing happened."
But despite Michael's claims of innocence, Priscilla was convinced that he was using Lisa Marie for his own gain.
"I asked her if they had a physical relationship," she writes in her memoir. "Like so many people, I wasn't sure. She said yeah."
And what did Lisa Marie think about their sex life? According to Priscilla, Lisa Marie was "terrified" of making the wrong move with Michael – but he seemed to be more than eager to take charge.
"When he decided to first kiss me, he just did it," Lisa Marie allegedly said. "He was instigating everything."
In the end, their marriage was short-lived – they filed for divorce after just two years together. And Priscilla couldn't help but feel a sense of relief when it finally happened.
"I could practically hear Elvis sigh with relief," she writes.
