ROYAL VISIT: PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE PAY TRIBUTE TO SOUTHPORT VICTIMS

In a heartwarming and emotional visit, Prince William and Kate paid their respects to the victims of the Southport stabbing that shook the nation last year. The royal couple, accompanied by their children's charity work and ongoing support for the community, made an unscheduled trip back to Churchtown Primary School where two young lives were tragically cut short.

A HEALING SPACE FOR THE YOUNG AND TRAGICALLY AFFECTED

Upon arrival, Prince William and Kate met with parents Alex and Sergio, who had spoken previously about their desire to create a special playground in memory of Alice da Silva Aguiar and Bebe King. The royal couple was visibly moved as they walked through the new playground, designed to serve as a healing space for the young victims. The area features a stage, indoor and outdoor library, quiet reflection zones, multi-games spaces, climbing frames, and bike cycle tracks - all carefully crafted to provide a sense of hope and resilience.

ART THERAPY: THE POWER OF SELF-EXPRESSION

As part of their visit, the Prince and Princess met with Alice's classmates who had been working on an art project designed to express their feelings of grief and loss. The children proudly presented their artwork, including three stunning group paintings that represented their emotional journey since the tragic events. One young girl explained the meaning behind the artwork: "In this piece, we chose dark colours for the backgrounds because we felt like we had dark thoughts and were quite sad about the loss and grief... The rain represented our tears, and how we couldn't stop them - they were uncontrollable."

A TALENTED POET AND A TALENTED COMMUNITY

The royal couple was also treated to a heartfelt poem written by one of the school's pupils. The poem spoke directly to the theme of hope and resilience in the face of tragedy. Prince William praised the community for coming together to create such a positive space, stating: "Last year, Alex and Sergio told us you wanted to create a special playground in memory of the girls... This playground is a symbol of how the community have come together to create such a positive space... A testament that love will always overcome tragedy."

Sources close to the royal family revealed that Prince William and Kate "care deeply for the families and the Southport community" and wanted to return to show their ongoing support. The couple privately donated to a fundraising appeal set up by the school, which has raised surplus funds for local charities supporting recovery efforts in Southport.

A CELEBRATION OF HOPE AND RESILIENCE

The event concluded with a celebration of hope and resilience, as 700 pupils, teaching staff, and bereaved parents came together to mark the opening of the new playground. Prince William and Kate were given a warm welcome by the school community, who expressed their gratitude for the royal couple's ongoing support.

In his speech, Prince William urged the classmates of Bebe and Alice to honour their memories and "be brave, be joyful, and be kind." He praised the community for coming together in the face of tragedy and acknowledged the incredible work done by teaching staff at both Churchtown Primary School and Farnborough Road Infant and Junior School.

A HEARTWARMING TRIBUTE FROM THE ROYAL COUPLE

As they left the school, Prince William and Kate were presented with a posy of flowers by two Year 6 pupils - Evelyn Hughes and George Macgregor. The children performed Proud by Heather Small to the smiling royal couple, bringing an end to a poignant yet uplifting day in Southport.
