Piper Perabo Sparks Coyote Ugly Sequel Hype at SDCC!
COYOTE UGLY 2: Piper Perabo Spills Major Update on Potential Sequel
Get ready, Coyote Ugly fans! A potential sequel to the iconic 2000 film is brewing, and we've got the scoop straight from the horse's mouth - or rather, Piper Perabo's mouth!
The 48-year-old actress, who played the lovable protagonist Violet Sanford in the original, dropped a major update at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. When asked about the possibility of a follow-up installment, Perabo hinted that behind-the-scenes talks have been taking place.
"There has been some discussion about that," she teased to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday. "Some things are being discussed." She added mysteriously, "I can't really say, but people that were doing it are talking about some stuff."
The hint of a potential sequel sent the internet into a frenzy, with fans of the original movie eagerly awaiting more news. And as if the rumor wasn't juicy enough already, Perabo's update came just months after she reunited with her Coyote Ugly castmates - including Tyra Banks, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Bridget Moynahan, and Melanie Lynskey - to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary.
When asked if talks about a second film were once again "back on," Perabo smiled slyly. "Among the necessary ones... some people that were like, 'Well, I don't necessarily need'... they're like, 'Oh, well, I wanna be in it.'"
She continued to tease, saying there are currently "a lot of cooks in the kitchen" working on the potential project. When asked if a script for Coyote Ugly 2 was already written, Perabo remained tight-lipped. "I can't say anything about that," she said with a wink.
However, when pressed about whether integral cast members were involved in the discussions, Perabo confirmed that they are indeed talking about how to bring back the magic of the original film. "People that were integral to making it are in communication about how to do something more," she revealed.
Coyote Ugly, released in 2000, told the story of aspiring songwriter Violet Sanford (Perabo), who gets a job at the iconic Coyote Ugly saloon to earn money while pursuing her music career. The film follows her journey as she overcomes stage fright with the help of love interest Kevin O'Donnell (Adam Garcia) and navigates her complicated relationships with her father (John Goodman).
Despite receiving mixed reviews, Coyote Ugly proved a surprise hit at the box office, grossing $113 million worldwide.
The film's enduring popularity was on full display during its 25th-anniversary celebration in February, when the cast reunited for a special screening and Q&A. During the event, Tyra Banks praised the reunion as "magical, wild, hilarious, and deeply touching - just like the movie itself."
Maria Bello also took to the stage to praise her fellow cast members and director Adam Shankman. "It feels magical when we're all together," she said.
Izabella Miko shared a behind-the-scenes look at the film's intense rehearsals for its elaborate dance numbers, saying it felt like "months" of preparation went into perfecting the choreography.
And as the cast reflected on their time filming Coyote Ugly, it was clear that the experience left a lasting impact. "It feels like we were all part of something special," said Melanie Lynskey.
As the world waits with bated breath for more news on a potential Coyote Ugly 2, one thing is certain: the excitement and anticipation are palpable!
