Tina Knowles Opens Up About Motherhood, Marriage, and Breast Cancer Battling Fashion Icon

In a night filled with laughter, tears, and revelations, Tina Knowles brought the house down as she shared her most intimate secrets about motherhood, marriage, and battling breast cancer at the final installment of "Matriarch: An Evening with Tina Knowles & Guests" conversation tour.

The event, held at London's Southbank Centre on Wednesday night, was chaired by none other than Stella McCartney, Paul McCartney's fashion-savvy daughter. The 53-year-old designer, known for her eponymous clothing label, had a special question prepared for the evening - one that came straight from her dad's mouth.

Tina replied: 'It's wonderful - except when people chat s**t about my kids. That's when I want to fight,' sparking rapturous applause from the audience

"I called him and said I'm really nervous," Stella revealed. "He said 'don't worry, just be yourself.' And I was like, no dad, I'm the one asking the questions now!" She added with a chuckle. "So I asked him if he had any questions to put to Tina as my father. He thought for a moment and then said, 'what's it like being a mother to Beyoncé and Solange?'"

Tina Knowles, 72, laughed and said, "It's wonderful - except when people chat s**t about my kids. That's when I want to fight," sending the audience into raptures.

The evening was filled with moments of mutual respect between Tina and Stella, who have become close friends over the years. The two matriarchs bonded over their shared love for fashion and motherhood, often exchanging stories and laughter.

The Beatles legend asked the question via his own daughter, fashion queen Stella McCartney , who was personally asked by the matriarch to be chair for the event

Tina spoke candidly about her experience as a mother to Solange, 38, admitting that she's still learning how to navigate their relationship. "With Solange, I need to give her space," she explained. "She needs her own life and make her own decisions. It took me a long time to understand that."

The conversation also touched on Tina's teenage daughters, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. She revealed that she encouraged both girls to be more outgoing during their formative years. "Beyoncé and Kelly never wanted to go to parties when they were younger," Tina said. "I was like 'go party, go wild for a minute.' With Solange, I didn't have to do that so much..."

Tina's relationship with her husband Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé's father, also came up during the conversation. She described him as a "good man" and revealed that their divorce in 2011 after 31 years of marriage was amicable.

It comes as Beyonce is set to kick off the UK leg of her Cowboy Carter Tour at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday

However, it was Tina's breast cancer diagnosis in 2024 that brought tears to everyone's eyes. The fashion icon opened up about how her daughter Solange joked about finding the silver lining in her situation - "you've always wanted small boobs, mom." Despite the humor, Tina urged women to get their mammograms and not put off check-ups.

The evening also saw Stella and Tina bond over their shared experience of losing loved ones to breast cancer. Stella's mother Linda McCartney tragically passed away from the disease in 1998.

Tina revealed that she became Destiny's Child's stylist after an emergency shopping spree in Jamaica, where she cut up camouflage fabric to create a makeshift outfit for Kelly Rowland. She jokingly recalled how Wyclef Jean praised her styling skills and soon found herself as the group's official stylist.

As the night drew to a close, Tina Knowles left the audience with a rallying cry: "Go get your mammograms, don't put it off." Thescholarlynote.com wishes to thank Stella McCartney for hosting this incredible event and providing us with an unforgettable evening of laughter, tears, and inspiration.
