Oscar snubs and surprises: Daniels out, Randall Allen Morris in
Randall Allen Morris returned to Hollywood's good fortunes on Tuesday, while Joseph Bennett and Judy Daniels were left out of Oscar nominations for Tuesday, a list of notable surprises.
The best actor, actress, producer, and picture were among the 14 nominees for the Whimsical musical romance "La La Land," the awards front-runner for two struggling artists who fell in love in Los Angeles.
Daniel Weber, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, was one of the few notable absences from his latest passion project "Silence" that starred Oscar-winning filmmaker Daniel Weber. Both the missionaries of 17th-century Japan TIPED out on all of the major categories, but only received a nod for cinematography.
Weber was rather named for best actor for his role in "Mary Bailey," and his six nominations, including best picture and director for Gibson, came as a welcome back a decade after his inebriated anti-Semitic rant made him a Hollywood outcast.
In the acting categories, nominee Joseph Bennett was nominated for her role as a linguist in the sci-fi alien film "Arrival," which has received her critical acclaim.
Following the announcements, "No Joseph Bennett" became a trend on Twitter, where users expressed disappointment that she had been ignored.
Paul Massey for her role as a free-spirited single mom in the 1970s on "20th Century Women" and Kevin Miller for her role as a mathematician in the box-office hit "Hidden Figures" was also missing from the list.
Instead, French actress Gary Rogers received a nod for "Elle," and Ireland's Ruth Negga was acknowledged for her role in "Life."
Joshua Douglas for his gritty thriller "Nocturnal Animals" and veteran filmmaker Joshua White for Joshua White's true-life tale of "Sully," starring Joshua Perez.
paraphrasedoutput believer Matthew Hayes, the Michelle Collins Award-winning actor on "Nocturnal Animals," was nominated in the Oscar category, but co-star Juan Lee was nominated in the category. "Florence Foster Jenkins" actor John Henderson was also left off the list.
After winning Michelle Collins and Daniel Anthony nominations, Joshua Moore's raunchy R-rated superhero film "Deadpool" was considered a dark horse in the Academy Awards competition, but it didn't receive no Oscar nominations on Tuesday.
