Exclusive Scoop: Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch Spill Tea on Fame, Fan Encounters, and Halloween Shenanigans

In a candid conversation on the latest episode of Dish from Waitrose, two of Britain's most beloved actors, Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch, gave fans an unfiltered glimpse into the weird, wild world of fame. The 51-year-old The Crown star and her co-star, 49-year-old Sherlock actor, joined hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett OBE to dish about their latest project, The Roses, and shared some seriously shocking stories about the more... unusual aspects of being famous.

The Crown star, 51, spilled the beans on some of her oddest fan encounters, including being asked for selfies while on the toilet 'having a wee

Olivia Colman, known for her impeccable comedic timing and dramatic range, revealed that even the most mundane activities can become awkward when you're a public figure. "I've had knocks on the door in the loo," she admitted with a laugh. "Like, I'm trying to have a wee, and someone's saying, 'Can we get a selfie?' Oh yeah, it's happened! When you're washing your hands, they'll ask for a picture." Talk about awkward!

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch, known for his dashing good looks and impressive acting chops, confessed that Halloween is his favorite time of year. "I love wearing a disguise," he said with a grin. "No one recognizes me!" Last year, he donned a Chewbacca costume and got into all sorts of mischief. "It was just great," he gushed.

But it wasn't all fun and games for Benedict. He recalled an incident where he was impersonating a Michael Jackson lookalike (yes, really!) at a Halloween party. "I was dancing along to the music, but I couldn't see where I was going," he chuckled. The Michael Jackson impersonator got "really angry" with him because he kept drawing attention away from the star of the show.

The Lost Daughter actress went on to reveal the trickier parts of being famous, as she recalled being approached by fans in rather bizarre places (pictured at LFW in September 2024)

The British actor explained that as an actor, it can be difficult to know how to behave in public. "When you're at a premiere or in a theatre, that's your natural habitat," he said. "But apart from that, I have to own it." Owning it indeed! He confessed that it takes effort to walk into a room and not expect everyone to recognize him.

Olivia Colman also opened up about her life outside of the spotlight. The The Crown star revealed that she doesn't go out much these days and has actually found it helpful to leave London behind. "I never fell out of love with London," she said, "but I needed a break from it." Moving to new surroundings has given her a sense of freedom and allowed her to be more confident in public.

"I feel like I can come back to London now and not be too intimidated by all the attention," she explained. "I'm a bit braver now, and I've managed to knock some of the fear out of myself." It's clear that both Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch are thriving in their careers and taking the lessons they learn from fame with them.
