Nick Offerman Claps Back Against Anti-Gay Joke During Pride Month
Scandal Rocks Hollywood: Nick Offerman Slams Michael Flynn Jr.'s Homophobic Tweet
In a shocking turn of events, Nick Offerman has called out Michael Flynn Jr., the son of disgraced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, for his homophobic tweet targeting the beloved character Ron Swanson from the hit TV show Parks and Recreation. The nepotistic offspring of the former Trump advisor shared a doctored clip of Ron trashing a Pride flag into a dumpster on social media, captioning it "Good morning and Happy Sunday! Just wanted to post how I feel about 'pride' month."
But Offerman, who's no stranger to speaking his mind, fired back with a scathing response: "Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb f*. #HappyPride." The 54-year-old actor's tweet sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, leaving many wondering if Flynn Jr.'s tweet was a deliberate attempt to stir up controversy.
As it turns out, Offerman's character Ron Swanson did indeed participate in a same-sex wedding in the show's 2015 series finale. And just last year, Offerman won an Emmy Award and an Independent Spirit Award for his portrayal of a doomsday prepper who enjoyed a long-lasting romance with another man in HBO's The Last of Us.
But what's even more tragic is that this scandal comes on the heels of a devastating loss for Offerman. His former co-star, Jonathan Joss, who played Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation, was tragically murdered last week at the age of 59. According to reports, Joss' neighbor confessed to shooting him multiple times, but authorities have yet to confirm if the killing was a hate crime.
Offerman's castmates are still reeling from the loss, with many taking to social media to pay their respects to the late actor. Offerman himself released a statement to People, saying: "The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken. Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy."
But amidst the sadness, Offerman's love life remains strong. He's been married to his wife Megan Mullally for over 21 years, and the couple is set to appear together at the Australian festival Vivid Sydney on June 14.
And it looks like Offerman won't be slowing down anytime soon! He's currently voicing a character in the animated sitcom The Great North, which airs Thursdays on Fox. And this summer, he'll star alongside his wife Megan Mullally, Dennis Quaid, and Jacob Tremblay in the crime drama Sovereign, hitting US theaters July 11.
But that's not all - Offerman will also be voicing Papa Smurf's brother Ken in Chris Miller's animated musical Smurfs, which hits US/UK theaters July 18 alongside an A-list cast including Rihanna, James Corden, Natasha Lyonne, Jimmy Kimmel, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman.
And if you thought that was enough, Offerman is also releasing a new children's book with his co-author Lee Buchanan called Little Woodchucks on October 14. Marking his sixth book, the guide to "tools and tomfoolery" promises to be a fun read for kids of all ages!
