Monty Python's Behind-the-Scenes Feud: Eric Idle and John Cleese at Odds
The Bitter Battle Between Monty Python Legends
It's a feud that's been brewing for years, and it seems like things are about to get even uglier between Monty Python legends Eric Idle and John Cleese. The two comedy titans have been at odds over management issues with fellow Pythons Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin. But now, the gloves are off, and things are getting personal.
John Cleese, 85, has spoken out against his estranged colleague Eric Idle, 82, accusing him of bullying Holly Gilliam, daughter of Terry Gilliam. Cleese fumes, "Eric Idle is once again attacking Holly Gilliam... I want to make it clear that Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, and I are totally satisfied with Holly's work." He adds that Idle has bullied her for years and that he thinks it's shameful.
But Eric Idle isn't backing down. In a recent interview, he labelled Cleese "bonkers" and claimed that the company hasn't been well-managed. Idle says, "I always want an older manager, someone who's wise – and not related to Terry Gilliam. So I walked away." He also claims that Holly is the reason he has to continue working over the age of 80.
The feud between Cleese and Idle goes back years, with Cleese saying in a previous interview that they've "always loathed and despised each other". But things took a turn for the worse last year when Cleese fired their former manager, Jim Beach, and hired Holly instead. Idle has since claimed that this was the reason he walked away from the company.

"I hate the term bounce back – there is no bounce back," Amy says. "I'm just rolling into a new form of myself, and no mother should be forced to lose her post-baby weight to keep up appearances. It's unhealthy." We couldn't agree more, Amy!
