Michelle Obama's 'Cats in the Cradle' Strategy: How She Googled Her Husband into Better Parenting

Michelle Obama has never shied away from talking about the trials and tribulations of parenting - and how her husband's presidency impacted raising their daughters (pictured together in 2008)

MICHELLE OBAMA SPEWS THE TEA: FORMER FIRST LADY SLAMS BARACK'S COMMITMENT TO POLITICS OVER PARENTING

In a jaw-dropping episode of IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, the former First Lady, 61, let it all hang out about her husband Barack's presidency and how it impacted their parenting. And trust us, she didn't hold back.

Michelle, who has been open about the trials and tribulations of raising their daughters Malia and Sasha in the White House alongside Barack, revealed a shocking anecdote about calling him out when she thought he wasn't doing enough as a father. But instead of just expressing her concerns, she broke into song – yes, you read that right!

In a previous episode of IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, Michelle recalled calling out her husband when she 'thought he wasn't doing enough' by singing a pointed tune

During a previous episode of IMO, Michelle recalled belting out the classic tune "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin, which she used to sing to Barack when he was being too focused on his duties as President. The lyrics, which speak to parents missing important milestones with their children, struck close to home for Michelle.

"'Cats in the cradle and the silver spoon,' I'd start singing because that song is so profound," Michelle explained to guest Bruce Springsteen. "It's like, 'When you coming home, [dad]? Don't know when.' I was like, 'You're going to look up, and the girls will be gone.'"

This poignant moment highlighted a common struggle faced by many working parents – finding that delicate balance between career and family responsibilities.

On Wednesday's episode of IMO, Michelle looked back on what it was like having teenagers while Barack, now 64, was the President of the United States

But Michelle's concerns about Barack's parenting went beyond just his absence. In a more recent episode of IMO, she opened up about the challenges they faced when their daughters were teenagers while he was serving as President.

Michelle shared a sweet story about Malia and Sasha having Secret Service agents assigned to them – a perk that Barack was particularly fond of, Michelle joked. However, she also emphasized the importance of giving her daughters space to make mistakes and learn from them.

"'Nobody's sneaking, doing anything,' I told my guests," Michelle said with a chuckle. "But at the same time, I had to give them enough rope to sneak... you've got to learn what trouble is before you run into it."

Despite being under scrutiny,  Michelle said she understood her daughters needed some room to make mistakes - and learn from them

Michelle also emphasized the value of allowing children to experience minor setbacks and consequences – like getting a parking ticket or navigating an airport on their own.

"'The baby trouble' growing up, that's essential," she said. "You know, the trouble where the ramifications aren't big enough to ruin your life. Like being at the wrong party at the wrong time, learning how to drive, getting through an airport by yourself..."

Her brother and co-host, Craig Robinson, chimed in, "The trouble where you can learn from it without losing everything."

But Michelle's most explosive comment came when Matt Barnes, a guest on the show, expressed interest in pursuing a career in politics – but was concerned about how it would affect his parenting. Michelle pounced on the opportunity to deliver a pointed barb at her husband.

"Politics will suck the life out of that," she snarked with a knowing smile, seemingly referencing Barack's commitment to politics over parenting.

This comment is particularly telling given the ongoing rumors surrounding their marriage. As The Scholarly Note previously reported, speculation about a possible divorce has been circulating for months, fueled by Michelle's decision to skip both Jimmy Carter's funeral and Donald Trump's inauguration – a move she attributed to her own choices rather than any marital issues.

However, in April, Barack himself confessed to being in a "deep deficit" with his wife, further fueling the rumors. And now, with Michelle's latest comments about Barack's commitment to politics over parenting, it seems their marriage may be facing more challenges than previously thought.

The Obamas raised their daughters in the White House from 2009 to 2017 while Barack served two terms as President, and it appears that his dedication to politics may have put a strain on their family life. As one fan of the show pointed out, "It's clear Michelle is still hurting from those years. She wants people to know what it was like for her daughters – but also for herself."

Whether or not this latest revelation will prompt Barack and Michelle to seek counseling remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: their marriage has been put under the microscope, and they're facing more scrutiny than ever before.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story!
