Michelle Obama on 'Feeling Free': Dispelling Divorce Rumors
Michelle Obama Spills the Tea on Her Marriage to Barack: "I Wouldn't Trade It"
In a shocking admission, Michelle Obama has revealed that she's finally found freedom from the pressures of being married to former President Barack Obama! The 61-year-old former first lady dished about her empty nest and marriage in the latest episode of her podcast, IMO, with guest Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Michelle confessed that being an empty nester has given her a sense of liberation. "For the first time in my life, I'm completely free," she said, quipping, "This is when we start living ladies!" With daughters Malia and Sasha grown up and out of the nest, Michelle can finally focus on herself.
But don't think for a second that Michelle's marriage to Barack has been without its challenges. In fact, rumors of their marital troubles have been swirling for months, fueled by Michelle's decision to skip both Jimmy Carter's funeral and President Donald Trump's inauguration. But in May, the former first lady attempted to set the record straight during an interview with entrepreneur Steven Bartlett.
"I'm not a martyr," she joked. "If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it." Michelle even directed a pointed finger at her brother Craig Robinson, implying that if there were any marital issues, he would be the first to know.
So, what's the secret to their enduring marriage? Michelle credits Barack for being her rock and partner. "The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was ever really, ever going to quit at it," she said. And speaking of quitting, Michelle believes that young people give up on marriage too quickly.
"I think people give up too quickly on marriage because they look at me and Barack and go, '#couple goals,'" she said. "And I'm like, 'It's hard.'" Michelle emphasized the importance of communication, therapy, and renegotiating relationships to keep the spark alive.
But even with their strong marriage, Michelle admitted that parenting can be tough. She recalled a particularly challenging conversation with Barack after they moved into the White House. Michelle told her husband that he needed to get their daughters' school used to having the President of the United States attending events, and she expected him to stay involved in his daughters' lives.
"It was like, 'No, you got to go to parent-teacher conference' - and he wanted to go," she said. "You have to get the school normalized to you being the type of engaged parent that you were before election night."
In the end, Michelle's marriage to Barack has endured despite the challenges. As she put it, "I wouldn't trade it." And with her newfound freedom as an empty nester, we can only imagine what juicy secrets she'll spill on her podcast in the future!
