Michael Douglas Announces 'No Real Intentions' of Returning to Acting

Michael Douglas said that he had 'no real intentions' of acting again and explained why he has been on an indefinite hiatus

Michael Douglas Drops Bombshell: No Plans to Return to Hollywood After Decades-Long Career!

In a shocking revelation, screen legend Michael Douglas has revealed that he has no intention of returning to acting after an illustrious career spanning over five decades. The 80-year-old Academy Award winner made the stunning admission during a press conference at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

According to sources close to the actor, Douglas has been on an indefinite hiatus since 2022, and it's not because he's retired – far from it! He simply wants to enjoy his golden years and focus on his personal life. In fact, the actor spent some quality time with his 22-year-old daughter Carys in Menorca shortly after making the decision.

He explained that he wanted to enjoy time off after his decades-spanning career. The actor is widely recognized for his iconic portrayal of Gordon Gekko in the 1987 film Wall Street, for which he also won an Academy Award

"I've been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I didn't want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set," Douglas quipped, as reported by Variety. And we can't blame him! After all, he's had an incredible career, including his iconic portrayal of Gordon Gekko in the 1987 film Wall Street.

But here's the twist: despite having no intentions of returning to Hollywood, Douglas is technically not retired. Why? Because he's open to making a comeback if the right project comes along! "I say I'm not retired because if something special came up, I'd go back, but otherwise, no," he said with a sly grin.

And what would be the perfect role for Douglas to return to? None other than playing the wife to his beautiful wife of nearly 25 years, Catherine Zeta-Jones! "I'm happy to play the wife in the spirit of maintaining a good marriage," he joked. Aw, how sweet!

He later emphasized that he does not consider himself officially retired because he would be open to returning to Hollywood if the right opportunity came along; pictured Juen in Taormina

But back to his current projects – or lack thereof. Douglas revealed that he's working on a small independent movie, trying to find the perfect script. Otherwise, he has no projects in the works for Hollywood.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Douglas has spoken about his decision to step away from acting. Back in May, he told Deadline that he was "enjoying" his break and focusing on his personal life as well as producing movies through his indie production company, Further Films.

When asked if there was anything that could lure him back to the screen, Douglas said: "If something good comes up that I really like. But I don't feel a burning desire." Fair enough!

Meanwhile, it seems like his 24-year-old son Dylan Douglas is about to make his acting debut in the upcoming thriller I Will Come to You. How proud must Michael be?!

In related news, Douglas has been spotted at various events and premieres, including the recent screening of a newly restored version of Miloš Forman's classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest starring Jack Nicholson. He even received a surprise Crystal Globe statuette from the festival's executive director!

So there you have it – Michael Douglas is taking a well-deserved break and focusing on his personal life, but don't count him out just yet! After all, as we always say at TheScholarlyNote.com: "You're only retired if you want to be!"
