Meghan's 'Bossiness' Sparks Royal Upset: Inside the Tumultuous Wedding Plans
Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Chaos: Palace Insider Spills the Tea
The royal wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry was supposed to be a fairytale come true, but behind the scenes, it was a drama-filled nightmare. According to a palace insider, Meghan's "bossy" behavior in the months leading up to her big day caused tension among the royal family.
Sally Bedell Smith, a journalist and royal biographer, has spoken out about the turmoil that surrounded the couple's wedding planning process on her Substack channel, Royals Extra. Smith has had conversations with Lady Elizabeth Anson, a great-niece of the Queen Mother and a goddaughter of King George VI, who is one of the Queen's closest friends.
Lady Elizabeth, a renowned party planner, was tasked with organizing Meghan and Harry's nuptials. However, Meghan allegedly dismissed her ideas and told her that she couldn't "make any decisions" until Harry returned from Botswana. When asked about Meghan's behavior, Lady Elizabeth described it as "so I gather. Very much so."
The Queen was reportedly not pleased with Meghan's treatment of Lady Elizabeth. According to Smith, the Queen said that Meghan could "turn into nothing but trouble." The Queen Mother's cousin added, "She sees things in a different way."
But that wasn't the only issue that arose during the wedding planning process. Thomas Markle, Meghan's estranged father, was allegedly frightened of attending the wedding due to health problems. In fact, he didn't attend the ceremony at all.
The Queen's relationship with her grandson Harry became strained as well. Lady Elizabeth revealed that the Queen was "really upset" when she discovered that Harry had asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform the wedding service in St George's Chapel without first requesting permission from the Dean of Windsor.
"This is a problem, Harry seems to think the Queen can do what she wants, but she can't," said Lady Elizabeth. "On the religious side, it is the Dean of Windsor’s jurisdiction."
The Queen was also reportedly saddened when Meghan refused to tell her about her wedding dress. In fact, Harry allegedly became rude to his grandmother during a meeting, leaving her feeling upset.
Despite these issues, the Queen and her grandson eventually patched things up. However, more family drama was on the horizon with Meghan's "opinionated and forceful" demeanor causing concern among senior royals and staff.
Six months after the wedding, it became clear that Meghan wasn't trying to fit into the royal family, but instead was determined to force her views on Harry. One adviser claimed that she wanted "more money" and an even more lavish lifestyle after marrying into the Royal Family.
Another staffer revealed that Meghan wanted to use her royal title to leverage a better life for herself. Smith wrote that it became clear "very early on" that Meghan wanted to leave the royal family behind, a decision that would later become known as "Megxit."
The revelations come as Meghan continues to scale her lifestyle brand, As Ever, with the launch of a new rosé on July 1 - the same day as Princess Diana's birth anniversary.
The Queen had high hopes for Meghan when she first joined the Royal Family. In fact, one senior adviser told Smith that the Queen hoped Meghan would represent a new, progressive Britain. However, it seems that Meghan's ambitions went far beyond what the Palace was prepared to offer her.
In an interview with The Scholarly Note, a palace insider revealed, "Nobody could have tried harder for Meghan than we did." But despite this effort, Meghan ultimately decided to leave the Royal Family behind, citing a desire for greater independence and freedom.
As the royal family continues to navigate its post-Megxit era, one thing is clear: the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry was just the beginning of a long and complicated saga.
