Meghan Markle's Netflix Show: A Gauntlet of Criticism or a Quest for Joy?

Meghan Markle has baffled more reviewers with season two of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan - after it was branded 'staged, fake and dull' upon its release

The Duchess of Drama: Meghan Markle's Netflix Show "With Love, Meghan" Receives Scathing Reviews

Meghan Markle's highly anticipated second season of her Netflix show "With Love, Meghan" has dropped, and critics are tearing it apart like a pair of ill-fitting jeans. The Duchess' attempt at showcasing her cooking skills, gardening prowess, and "moving meditation" techniques has been met with utter disdain from the press.

The Queen of Confusion

British Vogue's Radhika Seth was left bewildered by the first episode, exclaiming, "I love this show, but it's confounding!" The publication's 39 burning questions for Meghan include: "Why does she chop onions so slowly?" and "Why does she need edible flowers next to her cooker?" It seems the Duchess is more concerned with aesthetics than actual cooking.

Tan France's Gayest Moment Ever

During an episode, Tan France, the Queer Eye presenter, politely asked Meghan what she was putting on her French toast. Her response? "Flower sprinkles. I love them." France hesitated before remarking, "Wow. That's the gayest s* I've seen in a long time." Ouch, burn!

The Spectator's Scathing Review

The Spectator dubbed Season 2 "just as ghastly as season one," stating Meghan risks "dwindling into obscurity" unless she pens another tell-all memoir. The publication's Alexander Larman wrote, "It is fair to say that the many attempts to launch her as a solo star have not been as successful as she (and those with a vested interest in her earning power) might have wished."

Liz Jones' Mixed Review

The Mail's Liz Jones (now known as TheScholarlyNote.com's resident royal expert) gave With Love, Meghan two and a half stars out of five. While praising Meghan for being "genuinely earnest," she described the show as "staged, fake, and dull." Jones wrote, "What I love about Meghan – aside from the fact she makes a pressed forget-me-not necklace for Guy, her beagle (RIP) – is she seems genuinely earnest: it really is not an act."

Town & Country's Glowing Review

In stark contrast to the scathing reviews, Town & Country Magazine showered Season 2 with praise. The publication wrote, "Meghan shines when she is learning new things from her guests." They particularly enjoyed the finale episode featuring star chef Jose Andres.

The Guardian's Two-Word Review

The Guardian's Lucy Mangan gave With Love, Meghan two stars, summarizing it as: "So boring, so contrived, so effortfully whimsical that... well, you get the idea."

The New York Times' Praise

In a rare moment of kindness from the press, The New York Times wrote, "For her fans, the show's focus on her soft life in both seasons is rare and welcome." They even gave With Love, Meghan a glowing review, titling it "In With Love, Meghan, the Duchess Leans Into Joy."

The Independent's Scathing Review

However, The Independent was not having it. They gave Season 2 just one star, writing, "Watching this is like being gaslit by a multi-millionaire." Helen Coffey concluded, "It's like an AI was fed every Nancy Meyers film ever made and instructed to burp out a TV series."

Meghan's Personal Life

In the show, Meghan opens up about her love story with Prince Harry. She reveals it was him who said the L-word first and that she knew on their third date (a safari trip to Botswana) that she was falling in love. "You really get to know each other when you're in a little tent together," she gushes.

The Couple's Life in California

Meghan shares her affection for the UK, revealing it's not just the radio stations she misses but also the culture. She tells Tan France about their children's mixed British and American pronunciations: "My kids, they'll say a little bit of both, but never cooking terms because I guess Papa's not cooking as much."

The Future

As for future projects, Meghan and Harry are rumored to be working on a documentary marking the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death in 2027. However, their office has declined to confirm or deny this.

There you have it – the latest tea from the world of royal drama. Will Meghan Markle's show "With Love, Meghan" continue to receive scathing reviews, or will she manage to win over critics with future seasons? Only time (and perhaps a few more tell-all memoirs) will tell.
