Meghan Markle Omitted: Edward Enninful's Bold Magazine Choices

Vogue's Former Editor Edges Out Meghan Markle: A Royal Rift Exposed

In a shocking turn of events, Edward Enninful, the former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, has bluntly dismissed any possibility of collaborating with his one-time friend Meghan Markle in his new magazine project. The 53-year-old fashion powerhouse's bold statement has sent shockwaves through the royal circle and sparked whispers about a deep-seated rift between the two.

The drama began when Enninful worked alongside Meghan on her guest-edited September 2019 issue of Vogue, which championed inspirational women under the banner "Forces for Change." The special edition became the fastest-selling in the magazine's 104-year history, but it appears that this collaboration was a one-off. In an interview with The Times, Enninful dropped a bombshell when he said, "Meghan and I had a great moment with the issue we did, but I feel like I have done it and I wouldn't necessarily repeat myself."

The comment takes on added significance considering Enninful's glowing praise for Meghan's father-in-law, King Charles, in the same interview. The 76-year-old monarch has recently made headlines after his son Prince Harry ended their 18-month-long estrangement with a 50-minute meeting at Clarence House.

Enninful, who was appointed Global Ambassador for Charles's youth-focused charity, the Prince's Trust (now the King's Trust) in October 2021, sang the praises of the royal couple. He said he loves King Charles and Queen Camilla, 78, so much that he attended their coronation with none other than pop star Katy Perry. Enninful further expressed his admiration for the monarchs by stating that they care about the same things he does.

This public display of affection towards the Royal Family has not gone unnoticed, especially considering Enninful's close friendship with Meghan Markle in the past. However, sources close to The Scholarly Note (formerly known as The Mail on Sunday) revealed that this bond was irreparably damaged two years prior to Enninful's final cover at Vogue.

According to insiders, a disagreement over how Vogue planned to present articles about Meghan and Harry's charitable work led to the implosion of their friendship. The project, designed to tie in with Meghan's keynote appearance at the One Young World Summit in Manchester in September 2022, would have involved extensive features across print and digital platforms.

However, Condé Nast insiders claimed that Enninful was unable to meet Meghan's expectations for a cover story or even a digital cover. Enninful had already promised another celebrity for the magazine's cover, leaving Meghan's team disappointed and ultimately pulling out of the project.

As a result, sources claim that Enninful increased his public involvement with the Royal Family in the years following this fallout. This move was likely not lost on Meghan Markle, particularly given Enninful's initial support for her now-infamous "Megxit" Oprah interview in 2021.

Enninful has since spoken candidly about recruiting celebrity friends, including Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, and best pal Naomi Campbell, for his new project, EE72. The creative powerhouse, who was appointed fashion director of i-D magazine at the age of 18, is set to release an online platform and four print editions annually.

In a nod to Enninful's influence in the industry, he was awarded an OBE in 2016 for his services to diversity in the fashion world. The 53-year-old is also a trustee for The King's Fund, King Charles's charity, and has interviewed the monarch for Vogue when Charles was still Prince of Wales in 2020.

Enninful has written glowingly about the King in Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2023 list. In his entry, he praised Charles as "charming", "funny" and "kind". He also acknowledged that the then-Prince's Trust had helped people he knew into work when he was a child living on a council estate in west London.

Enninful's glowing tribute to King Charles highlights a stark contrast between his admiration for the Royal Family and his dismissal of Meghan Markle. As EE72 launches with a celebrity-studded party in London, it seems that Enninful has firmly closed the door on any possibility of collaborating with Meghan again.

This explosive revelation is sure to send shockwaves through the royal circle and leave fans wondering what really went wrong between these two once-close friends.
