Meet Aidan Barton: The Star Baby Who Played Both Luke and Leia in 'Revenge of the Sith'

The Little Star Wars Wonder: Meet Aidan Barton, the Baby Who Stealed the Show in Revenge of the Sith

It's been two decades since George Lucas' Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith hit theaters, and the galaxy far, far away is still captivating audiences with its epic space battles, intergalactic romance, and unforgettable characters. But amidst all the Jedi Knights and Sith Lords, one tiny star stole the show – six-month-old Aidan Barton, who played both baby Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa in the iconic scene where they're handed off to their respective guardians.

Now, 21 years after his debut as a pint-sized Padawan, Aidan is growing up to be quite the Star Wars fan himself. In an exclusive interview with The Scholarly Note, he dished out juicy details about his unique role in the franchise and shared some never-before-seen footage from the set of Revenge of the Sith.

While the duel between Anakin and his former Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor, above) was the pivotal moment of the film, it ended with the birth of two very pivotal Star Wars characters

Aidan's Early Start in Hollywood

Aidan Barton was born to film editor Roger Barton (Titanic, Armageddon) and actress Andi Wagner, who just welcomed him while production on Revenge of the Sith was still underway. According to Aidan, his dad had a rather... let's say 'candid' reason for getting him involved in the project: "My dad wanted me in the movie because he said it would get me laid in college." Yes, you read that right! Roger Barton, being the film editor extraordinaire, had control over how much screen time his baby boy got – and apparently, he wanted to make sure Aidan's future social calendar was booked solid.

The Birth of a Star Wars Legacy

When we caught up with Aidan at his Los Angeles home (before he headed back to college), he revealed that he didn't quite grasp the magnitude of his involvement in Revenge of the Sith until middle school. "I think it really set in when I told a friend, and their reaction was crazy," he admitted. But by then, Aidan had already become an ardent fan of the franchise – so much so that he's been watching all three trilogies on repeat for years.

From Baby Luke to College-Bound

Fast forward two decades, and Aidan is now a senior at the University of Colorado film school, where he's honing his skills in hopes of following in his dad's footsteps. "I'm hoping to go into the film industry – maybe as an editor or director," he said, beaming with enthusiasm. But before that, Aidan had a rather eventful summer break, interning at Company 3 and Flawless AI.

While there was another newborn used for the scene where Padme gave birth to the twins, it was Barton shown when Obi-Wan delivers Luke to Owen and Beru on Tatooine, and when the Organa's took custody of Leia

Aidan's Film Career Takes Off

As if being in Revenge of the Sith wasn't enough, Aidan also landed a role as an extra on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – where he got to meet Johnny Depp. "That was pretty cool," he said with a grin. But what really caught our attention was his own short films, posted on Instagram (aidan.cr3) and TikTok (@aidanroams). One of them, in particular, tugged at our heartstrings – a poignant tribute to the wildfires that ravaged his childhood home in Pacific Palisades.

The Fire That Changed Everything

Still, Barton revealed, 'my mom is actually the one holding me in the movie. Really, she's the only one holding me except for when I'm handed off.'

In April 2023, Aidan's family faced an unimaginable loss when their home was destroyed by wildfires. "I was actually hiking in Peru when it happened," he recalled, his voice tinged with sadness. But amidst the devastation, Aidan found a silver lining – the opportunity to create something meaningful from their experience. His short film, though initially intended as a school project, became an emotional outlet for him and a testament to the strength of his family.

Aidan Meets Mark Hamill (Kind Of)

In 2019, Star Wars legend Mark Hamill tweeted about Aidan's role in Revenge of the Sith – but with a hilarious twist: "FUN FACTS... A) Aidan Barton played both Luke AND Leia in #StarWarsEpisodeIIIRevengeOfTheSith... B) He is the son of that film's editor, Roger Barton. C) I have never met him." However, it turned out those first three photos Mark Hamill posted weren't actually of Aidan – but rather a lacrosse player from New England (ouch!). Thankfully, Andi Wagner was on top of things and had his agent fix the mix-up.

Aidan's Big Hope for 2027

When we mentioned that Disney announced Star Wars Celebration will be in Los Angeles for its 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2027, Aidan lit up. "I would love to have a panel with Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen, and Natalie Portman!" he exclaimed. We couldn't agree more – especially after hearing about his passion for the franchise.

Stay Connected with Aidan

He and wife Andi Wagner (above with director George Lucas) just welcomed Aidan while production was still happening in 2003

For fans who want to stay updated on Aidan's adventures in the film industry or just connect with him directly, you can follow him on Instagram (@aidan.cr3) and TikTok (@aidanroams). Who knows? Maybe one day he'll be attending a Star Wars Celebration panel alongside his idols – we certainly hope so!

Aidan added that his father is now at Disney full-time as a 'consultant editor,' hinting that, 'if a Star Wars movie comes through he might be working on it in the future

He was on break from school when the fires broke out, but he wasn't at home in L.A., he was hiking in Peru

'FUN FACTS: A) Aidan Barton played both Luke AND Leia in #StarWarsEpisodeIIIRevengeOfTheSith. B) He is the son of that film's editor, Roger Barton. C) I have never met him. D) He is now in high school. E) YIKES! #TimeWaitsForNoOne,' Hamill tweeted, along with photos of young Aidan.

'WHEN FUN FACTS GO WRONG: A) Aidan Barton played both Luke AND Leia in #EPIII B) He is the son of that film's editor, Roger Barton. C) I have never met him D) He is now in high school! E) 3 pics I posted were NOT HIM. His mom kindly sent me these photos of the #ActualAidan-#MyBad,' Hamill said.

He made his first fan convention appearance at Galactic Fan Fest last July in Kittery, Maine, where he signed autographs for Star Wars fans

While he dismissed the possibility of a career as an actor or a director in the interview, it seems he has caught the filmmaking bug
