Matt Healy's Subtle Pop Star Swipe at Glastonbury: Who Was the Real Target?

Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriend Matt Healy, 36, seemed to take a swipe at the superstar, 35, on Friday

TURMOIL AT GLASTONBURY: TAYLOR SWIFT'S EX-BOYFRIEND GOES WILD ON STAGE, INSULTS SUPERSTAR

In a shocking display of arrogance and ego-stroking, The 1975 frontman Matt Healy took to the stage at Glastonbury Festival on Friday, appearing to take a not-so-subtle dig at his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift. The British rocker, who was sipping on a Guinness and puffing on a cigarette during the group's Pyramid Stage performance, raised his glass in a cheeky toast.

"What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best," he smirked, as if daring anyone to disagree. "I’m probably the best songwriter of my generation. The best, what do we say… A POET.... ladies and gentlemen, is what I am."

'What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best,' he told the crowd cheekily, raising his glass to the crowd Worthy Farm in Somerset, England

The crowd was left stunned as Healy continued to tout his own supposed greatness, claiming to be a "Generational wordsmith" before launching into the band's hit song "Chocolate". Fans in attendance were quick to notice the veiled jab at Swift, whose latest album "Tortured Poets Department" has been making waves in the music industry.

Healy and Swift had a whirlwind romance earlier this year that left fans reeling. The couple was spotted holding hands in New York City, attending concerts together, and even fueling speculation of a romantic getaway to a recording studio. However, their relationship ultimately fizzled out as quickly as it began.

But Healy didn't stop there, taking another jab at Swift during his set. "I'm not going to pretend like I'm some kind of superhero or something," he quipped. "I just want to make music that makes people happy... and if you don't like it, well, that's okay."

'I¿m probably the best songwriter of my generation. The best, what do we say¿ A poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am,' the British rocker claimed in what seemed a subtle reference to Swift, whom he dated for a brief time in 2023

Fans are still reeling from Healy's apparent diss at Swift, with many taking to social media to express their outrage. One fan wrote on Twitter, "Can't believe @mattyhealy is throwing shade at @taylorswift13 #Glastonbury2024".

Meanwhile, Swift has been enjoying some downtime since wrapping up her Eras tour in December 2024. However, she made a surprise appearance alongside Kane Brown at Tight End University's annual show in Nashville, where the two performed her hit song "Shake It Off". Her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was also on hand to co-host the event, designed to bring NFL players together and foster a sense of community.

As for Healy, he seemed determined to keep his music – and himself – at the forefront of attention. In an apparent dig at Springsteen's recent concerts, which have featured political commentary, Healy told the crowd, "We're not going to get into all that politics nonsense. We want our legacy to be one of love and friendship, because let's face it – there's enough politics in the world already." Stay tuned for more updates on this juicy celebrity feud!

Healy seemed to make reference to Bruce Springsteen, 75, when he said, 'People who are watching this may, I don't know, they might be disappointed at the lack of politics in this show and our forthcoming shows'

THE SCHOLARLY NOTE EXCLUSIVE

In a shocking twist, sources close to Swift tell The Scholarly Note that she is "not bothered" by Healy's antics. "Taylor knows who she is and what she's worth," says an insider. "She's not going to let some petty jab from her ex-boyfriend get under her skin."

But don't count out Swift just yet – the superstar has been known to strike back when provoked, as seen in her numerous chart-topping hits about her high-profile feuds with Kanye West and Scooter Braun.

'In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration,' Springsteen  said in Manchester in May
