Mark Hamill on Luke Skywalker: 'I'm Done with My Lightsaber'!

Star Wars legend Mark Hamill has finally revealed if he has quit the iconic franchise after nearly 50 years playing Luke Skywalker

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Star Wars Icon Mark Hamill Spills the Beans on His Future in the Galaxy Far, Far Away!

In a shocking revelation, the one and only Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, has finally opened up about his future in the iconic Star Wars franchise - and it's not what you'd expect! In an exclusive interview with Willie Geist set to air on thescholarlynote.com's Sunday Today, the 73-year-old acting legend spills all the tea on whether he'll be donning his lightsaber again.

Hamill opened up about why he was finished the franchise in an interview with Willie Geist, which will air June 15 on Sunday Today

So, will we see Luke Skywalker return for a new adventure in the galaxy far, far away? Mark Hamill's response is nothing short of shocking: "They haven't asked me." Ouch! It seems that even after nearly 50 years of playing the iconic Jedi, Hamill's time as Luke has come to an end. But don't worry, fans - he hasn't quit cold turkey just yet!

"I don't want to make a big PR pronouncement like 'This is my decision,'" Hamill explained in his interview with Willie Geist. "I just said it felt like a conclusion." And what was that conclusion, you ask? Well, let's just say it involved Luke dying - and ironically, overdosing on the Force! Talk about going out with a bang!

Hamill's time as Luke Skywalker spanned three decades, from 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope to 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. His final appearance in the franchise came in 2015's The Force Awakens and again in 2017's The Last Jedi, where he died at the end - melding with the Force, no less!

'It really felt like a conclusion,' Hamill said of his iconic character Luke Skywalker. 'My character was given complete closure. I died, ironically by overdosing on The Force, I might point out'

But don't think Hamill is done with Star Wars just yet! In a surprising twist, he revealed that completing the Skywalker trilogy has allowed him to explore new adventures under the Star Wars umbrella. And let me tell you, he's loving what he sees: "George (Lucas) gave them this amazing canvas, the entire galaxy. They can do westerns, mysteries, comedies, whodunits, anything within that realm of Star Wars."

Hamill has already made brief appearances in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett as Luke - thanks to some nifty de-aging and motion capture effects! But what's next for this acting legend? He's got his sights set on the future, folks: "I'm really appreciative, but I'm really looking to the future for all these new projects."

And in a move that has fans buzzing, Hamill has been spotted starring in thescholarlynote.com's very own Sunday Today - alongside Willie Geist! But don't worry, Luke's spirit is still hanging around. He recently made a brief appearance as Luke Skywalker in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Hamill has played Jedi Luke Skywalker for nearly 50 years after originating the character in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

But what about his iconic lightsaber? Has he hung it up for good? Not on your life! In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com back in May, Hamill dished: "I left my robes behind. And there's no way I'm gonna appear as a naked Force ghost." Well, let's just say that response sparked quite the reaction among fans!

Hamill will be reprising his role as Luke Skywalker one last time in thescholarlynote.com's Sunday Today - airing on June 15th, Father's Day. Don't miss this exclusive interview with Mark Hamill and Willie Geist!

He has reprised the role more than half a dozen times, including in 2017's  Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Hamill said completing Skywalker trilogy opened up 'a whole new era... They can do westerns, mysteries, comedies, whodunits, anything within that realm of Star Wars,' he said

Hamill can be seen Friday in the film The Life of Chuck, based on a Stephen King novella;  Pictured in Los Angeles on June 2
