Mariah Carey Unveils: The Ex Who Still Makes Her 'Angry'!
MARRIAGE MAYHEM: MARIAH CAREY UNLEASHES ON EX-HUSBAND TOMMY MOTTOLA IN CANDID INTERVIEW
The Queen of Christmas has finally let her hair down and spoken out about her tumultuous love life, leaving fans gobsmacked with revelations that will leave you speechless. In a jaw-dropping interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, Mariah Carey, 56, ripped the lid off her marriage to ex-husband Nick Cannon, but it was her scathing comments about first husband Tommy Mottola that will have tongues wagging.
The music icon, who shares adorable twins with Cannon, admitted that she still harbors anger towards Mottola, now 77, for their five-year marriage that ended in 1998. Carey revealed that the marriage, which began when she was just 23 and he was 20 years her senior, was a "private hell" where she felt like a prisoner.
"I feel angry about that time, but I think I've made peace with it," Carey confessed. "I vowed to stop talking about it, but humor is my release, and people who know me know that." And boy, does she deliver some wicked one-liners! The songstress pokes fun at her past, saying, "You might want to picture a child bride" – OUCH!
But what really got our attention was Carey's scathing comments about Mottola's attempts to control her music career. She revealed that he wanted to mold her into a mainstream pop artist, stifling her desire to create more R&B and urban music. "I wanted to do more of that kind of music, but it would get shot down," she said. "It wasn't that I didn't like the music I was making – I just felt there was more inside me that I wanted to release."
Carey's comments about Mottola come after her previous interviews where she described their marriage as a nightmare. In 2019, she told Cosmopolitan that Mottola tried to keep her in a "gilded cage," saying, "There was a conscious effort to keep me as this all-American girl. It was very controlled. There was no freedom for me as a human being. It was almost like being a prisoner."
But what's even juicier is Carey's revelation that her affair with baseball heartthrob Derek Jeter served as the catalyst for the end of her marriage to Mottola. "It was a huge wake-up call," she said during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Talk about a scandal!
After her high-profile divorce from Cannon in 2016, Carey went on to date Australian billionaire James Packer (who infamously proposed to her) and former backup dancer Bryan Tanaka for seven years until 2023. And if that's not enough gossip, the songstress has been rumored to be dating Grammy-winning singer Anderson .Paak, 39.
With this bombshell of an interview, it's clear that Mariah Carey is finally speaking truth to power – and giving us all the tea we need to get through the week!
