Mariah Carey Fires Back at Grammys: 'They're Overrated!'

Mariah Carey (seen in London on Friday) has blasted the Grammys after being snubbed out of nominations for years

Mariah Carey Throws Shade at the Grammys: "They Scaaaaamed Me"

The drama is real, folks! Mariah Carey, the queen of pop, has finally spoken out about her long-standing feud with the Grammy Awards. The 56-year-old songstress, who has won a whopping five Grammys in her illustrious career, took to Pitchfork's Over/Under YouTube series to express her thoughts on the prestigious award show.

And let's just say, she didn't hold back! When asked about the Grammys, Mariah quipped, "Ha, I think the Grammys are overrated." But that wasn't all - she went on to clarify that both the award show and the award itself were overrated. Ouch!

The 56-year-old singer has won only five Grammy Awards during the course of her successful career thus far - with her last nomination occurring 16 years earlier; seen in 2006 at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards

But don't worry, fans, Mariah's not one to hold grudges. She added with a smile, "But we love everybody." It seems like Mariah is just trying to keep it real and let her feelings be known.

This isn't the first time Mariah has spoken out about her Grammy snubs. Last October, she appeared on the Las Culturistas podcast, where hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers expressed that she doesn't have enough Grammys wins. And, well, you can guess what Mariah had to say about that...

"They scaaaaamed me," she admitted, hinting at a long-standing feud with the Recording Academy. And let's be real, 34 Grammy nominations and only five wins? That's some serious drama right there!

Mariah has garnered a whopping 34 Grammy nominations - with her first win taking place in 1991 for Best New Artist and Best Pop Female Vocal Performance for Vision Of Love (seen above)

But it's not like Mariah hasn't achieved greatness in her career. She has sold an astonishing 220 million records worldwide and landed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart a staggering 19 times as a solo artist! Talk about a legend!

Mariah has also raked in numerous accolades, including 10 American Music Awards and 20 Billboard Music Awards. So, what's the problem with the Grammys? Well, according to Mariah, it's all about the politics involved.

In 2009, her last Grammy nomination was for Best Gospel Performance for the song "I Understood," which also featured Kim Burrell, Rance Allen, and Bebe Winans. And let's not forget that epic moment in 2024 when she received the Recording Academy's Global Impact Award at the Black Music Collective event.

As she took to the stage, Mariah couldn't help but throw some shade at the Grammys. "Is this a real Grammy? I haven't seen one in soooooo long," she joked to the crowd. "It's weird. I don't know. We'll figure out what this is later."

And there you have it, folks! Mariah Carey has finally spoken her mind about the Grammys, and it's clear that there's some serious beef between them. But hey, who can blame her? After all, she's a legend in her own right!
