Magic Vanished: Harry Potter Event at Kings Cross Forever Cancelled

A Harry Potter event which celebrates the start of each academic year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry every September 1 has been permanently cancelled (Daniel Radcliffe pictured)

SPOILER ALERT: The Wizarding World is About to Get a Whole Lot More Magical!

Get ready, Muggles and wizards alike, for a year of non-stop magic as the latest adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved novels hits the small screen. But before we dive into all the juicy details, let's talk about some disappointing news: the annual Back to Hogwarts tradition at King's Cross Station has been cancelled... again!

This year marks the second time in a row that Warner Brothers Discovery has decided to ditch the public event, which saw hundreds of fans gather in their best wizarding attire to recreate the iconic scene from the Harry Potter series. The event typically involved a countdown on departure boards and a special announcement by the train service, but alas, it's all been put on hold for now.

The gathering has seen celebrities such as Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne attend (pictured in 2022)

According to a statement released on the Wizarding World website (which we're sure many of you are secretly checking every day), fans have been advised to stay away from Kings Cross Station on September 1st. And if that wasn't enough, a spokesperson confirmed to The Sun (sourced by thescholarlynote.com) that there won't be any events at the station this year either.

BUT WAIT! There's still hope for you die-hard Harry Potter fans out there. This year's festivities will be relocated to Cineworld Leicester Square, where you can catch a screening of the fourth film in the series and even participate in a Q&A session hosted by none other than James and Oliver Phelps (you know, the twin brothers who played Fred and George Weasley on screen!).

Now, let's talk about some exciting news. Did you hear that the Wightwick Hall steam locomotive has been selected to feature as the Hogwarts Express in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series? This beautifully restored engine has a rich history, having traveled over 640,000 miles with the Great Western Railway before being withdrawn in 1964 and sold to a scrapyard.

It has previously involved the train service being displayed on departure boards

But don't worry; its story didn't end there. In 1978, it was purchased by volunteers from Buckinghamshire Railway Centre for a whopping £9,180 (which is roughly equivalent to $12,000 today!). After a long restoration process that spanned over four decades, the Wightwick Hall steam locomotive is now on long-term loan to the Bluebell Railway in West Sussex.

For the next eight years, this iconic engine will be making regular appearances at the tourist attraction between filming sessions for the HBO series. We can't wait to see it chugging along the tracks, transporting our favorite wizard from Platform 9 and 3/4 to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

Speaking of which, have you heard about the young cast members who are set to star in the upcoming series? Dominic McLaughlin (11) has landed the coveted role of Harry Potter, while Arabella Stanton (11) will play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout (11) will bring Ron Weasley to life on screen.

Traditionally, hundreds of fans gather in fancy dress at Kings Cross (pictured in 2023)

Filming for the series began in May, with the cast and crew spotted setting up shop on the Île de Sein off the coast of Brittany, France. And let's just say we're all counting down until next year when the show hits the airwaves!

So there you have it, folks – a mix of both excitement and disappointment as the wizarding world prepares for another magical year ahead! Will you be attending the special screening at Cineworld Leicester Square or will you be keeping an eye out for the Wightwick Hall steam locomotive on your next visit to the Bluebell Railway?
