Lily James Slinks Through NYC in Style, Warns Against the Dating App Era
Lily James Sizzles on NYC Streets, Talks Online Dating Dangers
The British beauty, Lily James, 36, is making waves with her latest project, Swiped, a movie about the real-life story of Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd's alleged harassment at Tinder. And the actress is certainly living up to her character's reputation for style and sophistication.
On Monday, Lily stepped out in New York City, rocking a chic ensemble that left onlookers green with envy. The Downton Abbey alum paired a stunning Victoriana blouse by Nina Ricci with high-waisted trousers that accentuated her tiny waist. She completed the look with 90s-inspired sunglasses and a sheer material layered over a vest.
Lily's outfit was so fetch that it left fans wondering if she'd stepped straight out of a fashion magazine. And, boy, did she deliver! The actress's sizzling hot looks were not just limited to her daytime outing; later that evening, she stunned in a black, off-the-shoulder mini dress with low denier tights that showcased her toned legs.
But Lily's NYC sojourn wasn't just about looking fabulous – the star also stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers to discuss Swiped. During their conversation, she confessed to not being an avid user of dating apps herself, although she did confess to "stealing" her friend's phone for research purposes.
"I didn't dabble and I haven't," Lily admitted, laughing nervously. "I feel a bit bad playing the creator of these apps having never really done it." But it seems that's not stopping her from speaking out about the dangers of online dating.
Lily shared her concerns with Seth, saying: "Well, I'm kind of scared that we're losing this like lost art of like seeing someone in a bar and just like catching their eye and going over. I hope that that doesn't disappear."
Seth chimed in, reminiscing about the early days of dating apps, when people used to be embarrassed to admit they'd met on an app. "It's so funny that like 'we were drunk at the same time' [was ok]," he quipped.
Lily's words are all the more poignant given her character's harrowing story. As she explained in a recent interview with The Scholarly Note: "I was really unfamiliar with Whitney Wolfe’s story... Dating apps are so a part of our culture, whether you like it or not—they determine and dictate a lot of how we meet people...
"So learning about the story of this woman who was a part of that inception, not only at Bumble but also Tinder, and this phenomenal journey of growth she goes through to become such a formidable, innovative entrepreneur, facing real adversity and challenges, which she overcame, I found deeply inspiring."
With Swiped hitting theaters soon, fans can't wait to see Lily James bring Whitney Wolfe Herd's story to life. And with her sizzling hot looks on display in NYC, it's clear that the actress is ready for her close-up.
