Leonardo DiCaprio's 'Biggest Career Regret': Passing on Boogie Nights!
LEO'S BIGGEST REGRET: ACADEMY AWARDS WINNER REVEALS HE TURNED DOWN ROLE IN OSCAR-NOMINATED CLASSIC "BOOGIE NIGHTS"
Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, has made some of the most iconic movies in Hollywood history, from the epic romance Titanic to the scandalous biopic The Wolf of Wall Street. But despite his impressive resume, Leo has a secret regret that's been brewing for years: passing up on the role of a lifetime in Paul Thomas Anderson's critically acclaimed film "Boogie Nights".
In an exclusive interview with Variety, Leo opened up about his biggest regret, and it's not just any movie – it's one that's widely regarded as a masterpiece. The Academy Award winner revealed that he had to turn down the lead role in Boogie Nights because he was already committed to playing Jack Dawson in Titanic.
Mark Wahlberg ultimately took on the role of Eddie Adams, and while Boogie Nights was nominated for three Oscars, it's Titanic that holds the record with a whopping 14 nominations and 11 wins. But Leo insists that passing up on "Boogie Nights" is his biggest regret: "I'll say it even though you're here – my biggest regret is not doing 'Boogie Nights', it was a profound movie of my generation."
Leo admitted that he can't imagine anyone else playing the role, and when he finally watched the film, he thought it was a masterpiece. This isn't the first time Leo has spoken about his regret; back in 2008, he told GQ that he wished he could have done both films but was forced to choose.
But what's even more intriguing is that Leo's candid interview comes on the heels of him hinting at settling down with his new model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti. The actor has a reputation for dating some of the most beautiful women in the world, including Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bündchen, and Bar Refaeli – all of whom were under the age of 25 when they dated Leo.
However, it seems like Vittoria is breaking the rules: she's over 25, and the pair's relationship continues to blossom. In a rare new interview with Esquire UK, Leo declared that he's living by new rules: always being honest and upfront because he has "no time to waste" at his age.
According to Leo, turning 50 has given him a newfound sense of clarity: "Turning 50 creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time. I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress." He credits his beloved mother Irmelin Indenbirken, 82, for inspiring this new approach: "She says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time trying to fake it."
Leo's newfound commitment to honesty has even influenced his relationships. He recently split from Camila Morrone after five years together in 2022 – just a month after she turned 25. When asked about the importance of being upfront, Leo explained: "Being more upfront and risking having things fall apart or risking disagreements or going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life – it's that you don't want to waste your time any more."
Leo's words are music to the ears of his fans, who have been following his high-profile relationships over the years. He famously dated model Gisele for five years starting when she was 18 and had a five-year romance with Bar Refaeli that ended when she turned 25.
Rumors swirled about Leo's latest love interest, Gigi Hadid, after they fueled romance speculation in September 2022 – but just weeks later, it seemed like the hype had died down. However, a source close to the actor revealed that he was indeed single and not seeking out young women, setting the record straight: "Leo is very single right now and he is not keen on the hype suggesting that he is seeking out these very young women."
