Kyle MacLachlan Drops Out: Creative Clash Keeps Him Off SATC Reboot
KYLE MACLACHLAN SPILLS THE TEA ON WHY HE'S NOT RETURNING TO AND JUST LIKE THAT - AND IT'S ALL ABOUT CREATIVE DIFFERENCES!
The drama continues to unfold in the world of Sex and the City: And Just Like That, as Kyle MacLachlan reveals that creative differences have kept him from reprising his role as Trey MacDougal on the HBO series. The 66-year-old actor, best known for his iconic roles in Twin Peaks and FBI special agent Dale Cooper, has been mum about his potential return to the franchise - until now.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, MacLachlan opened up about the tension between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, which he believes is a major factor in his decision not to return. "What they suggested to me, I said, 'I think there should be more,'" he explained. "So I just said, 'I wonder, if the relationship that Charlotte and Trey had demands a little more than their first idea.'"
MacLachlan went on to reveal that he had proposed an alternative storyline for his character, involving Trey's successful winery in Napa Valley. However, it seems that the producers weren't biting. "But no, I actually haven't said anything yet... it'd be very interesting," he teased.
Despite the creative differences, MacLachlan is still a fan of the show and its cast, including Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Sarah Jessica Parker. "They're all lovely. And I adore them," he gushed. However, his praise for the trio stops short of extending to Cattrall, with whom Parker has had a very public feud.
The tension between Parker and Cattrall dates back to 2004, when Cattrall spoke out about feeling underpaid and undervalued during the original run of Sex and the City. The drama reached new heights in May 2023, when it was reported that Cattrall had not spoken to her former co-stars during filming on the And Just Like That reboot.
Cattrall's shock return to the franchise for a single episode in August 2023 only added fuel to the fire, with some fans speculating about the true nature of her reunion. It seems that MacLachlan is just as intrigued by the drama surrounding the show. "It'd be very interesting," he repeated.
As for his own role in the franchise, MacLachlan is content to have played Trey MacDougal during the original run of Sex and the City. However, he remains open to reprising the role if the creative differences can be resolved. "Regardless" of whether he returns or not, MacLachlan believes that And Just Like That is "doing great."
The drama surrounding Sex and the City: And Just Like That continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Will Trey MacDougal make a comeback? Only time will tell.
