Kristin Chenoweth: The 'Crazy Dog Person' Unleashes on Non-Pet Parents and Gives Us a Glimpse into Her Whirlwind Life

The queen of Broadway, Kristin Chenoweth, is back in the news, and this time she's speaking out against those who think it's weird to consider her furry friend Thunder 'Pup' Chenoweth as her "baby." In an exclusive interview with People, the 56-year-old (she'll be turning 57 next month) Wicked star let loose on non-pet parents who can't seem to wrap their heads around the bond between humans and animals.

"I mean, when people say, 'Oh, it's just your dog,' I want to go, 'She came out of my vagina. What are you talking about?'" Chenoweth quipped, her signature sass on full display. "I love my dog. Okay?" The answer is clearly a resounding yes, as evidenced by the adorable photos of Thunder and Kristin that flood her Instagram feed.

The Wicked star - turning 57 next month - told People on Wednesday: 'When people say,

But what's behind this passionate defense of pet parenthood? For Chenoweth, it all started when she adopted Thunder in 2017 from Saving Spot Rescue. "The best day of my life was finding her and rescuing her," she gushed on social media last October. "The love of my little life!" The Oklahoma-born blonde has always been an animal lover, having grown up with dogs as a child. In fact, she's so devoted to her furry friends that she considers it a "very big privilege" to share her home with them.

This isn't the first time Chenoweth has spoken out about her love for animals. After the passing of her beloved dog Madeline Kahn Chenoweth in 2016, Kristin shared a heart-wrenching post on Instagram, reflecting on the lessons she learned from her furry friends. "When she went to heaven, I was devastated," she wrote. "I literally said, 'God, why would you give us these precious angels to take care of and then take them from us after such a brief time?' But what I keep hearing, the handprint that I keep on my soul, is that they're here to teach you patience and unconditional love."

It's clear that Chenoweth has taken those lessons to heart. She's been open about her spiritual views on animal companionship, even going so far as to say that "dog is God spelled backwards." But don't worry, she's not one of those woo-woo celebrities – just a passionate advocate for the special bond between humans and animals.

Of course, it's not all work and no play for Kristin. The triple-threat Tony winner has been busy with her acting career, having recently landed the role of junior college cheerleading coach Tammy Istiny in Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof's new pilot Stumble for NBC (Deadline broke the news last week). But it looks like she'll be trading in her pom-poms for a crown soon – Chenoweth will make her triumphant return to Broadway this fall as part of Michael Arden's musical The Queen of Versailles at the St. James Theatre in Midtown Manhattan.

And speaking of love, Kristin has been enjoying life with her husband of 21 months, guitarist Josh Bryant. The two met in 2016 when she hired his band Backroad Anthem to perform at her niece's wedding reception (talk about a match made in heaven!). With her busy schedule and devoted fans, it's no wonder Chenoweth is always on the go – but with Thunder by her side, she knows she can face anything life throws her way.

So there you have it – Kristin Chenoweth: pet parent extraordinaire, Broadway legend, and influencer powerhouse. And to all those non-pet parents out there who think it's weird to call your dog a "baby"? Well, as the one and only Kristin would say, "What are you talking about?"
