Keanu Reeves Embraces Minimalism: Is This Method Acting or Just Bad Hair Day?

Keanu Reeves Takes a Fashion Fumble

In a shocking turn of events, 52-year-old heartthrob Keanu Reeves was spotted helping his girlfriend of seven years, Alexandra Grant, with her luggage as she prepared to depart from Manhattan's airport on Monday. The artist, who is set to attend a Roxane Gay event at Occidental College this Tuesday, warmly bid farewell to the Matrix alum before boarding a black SUV.

Reeves' disheveled appearance raised eyebrows among fans and critics alike. The actor was seen wearing a black hoodie over brown corduroy trousers, beige suede slippers, and a red trucker cap repping his company ARCH Motorcycle, which he co-founded with builder Gard Hollinger in 2011. The usually stylish Reeves looked like he just rolled out of bed, leaving many to wonder if the lack of effort was a deliberate choice or simply a sign of exhaustion.

But it seems that Reeves' laid-back attitude may be a method acting approach for his current Broadway play, Waiting for Godot, where he portrays Estragon. The 1952 Samuel Beckett surrealist tragicomedy is known for its absurdist themes and philosophical undertones, which might explain Reeves' decision to adopt a more relaxed, almost vagabond-like appearance.

However, the reviews for his performance have been less than stellar. New York Post critic Johnny Oleksinski panned Reeves' portrayal of Gogo, stating that he "doesn't imbue any of Gogo's lines with meaning — only speed and breathiness." THR critic David Rooney concurred, writing that Reeves relied on a "vacant stare" to convey emotion, which was jarring in live theater.

The criticism has sparked a heated debate among fans, with some defending the actor's choices as a genuine attempt to connect with the character. Instagram user @sondraschalk commented, "He looks so skinny. It is worrisome," while @dionfermin added, "Gosh he could [have] made a little tiny effort on his appearance." Others took issue with Reeves' overall look, suggesting that he should clean up and invest in some new clothes.

Meanwhile, Deadline critic Greg Evans offered a more sympathetic view of Reeves' performance, praising the actor's ability to captivate audiences despite some missteps. "Reeves, as they say, is Reeves, an exceedingly charming actor who projects more than he acts but always seems to have full control of an audience's attention (and affection)," Evans wrote.

Despite the mixed reviews, Reeves remains committed to his craft and has several upcoming projects lined up. He will next star in Aziz Ansari's feature directorial debut Good Fortune, alongside Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh. The film hits US/UK theaters on October 17. Fans can also look forward to seeing Reeves in Francis Lawrence's long-delayed Constantine sequel and Ruben Östlund's satirical black comedy The Entertainment System Is Down.

As for his relationship with Grant, it seems that the couple is going strong. They've been spotted together at several events, including a gala opening of Waiting for Godot on Sunday night. Reeves' dedication to supporting his partner's artistic endeavors has earned him praise from fans and critics alike.

In an era where celebrity relationships are scrutinized under a microscope, Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant's commitment to each other is a refreshing respite from the drama-filled headlines that often dominate the news. As @francadicocco so aptly put it, "Keanu I love you," but "you need a new look!" Perhaps Reeves will take this advice to heart and revamp his style for his next project.
