Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson Reunite: Dawson's Creek Sweethearts Spark Frenzy with 'Happy Hours' Announcement!
EXCLUSIVE: Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson Reunite for Sizzling Trilogy, Happy Hours!
Get ready for a blast from the past as two of the most iconic teen TV stars, Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson, reunite on the set of their upcoming trilogy, Happy Hours! The Ohio-born 46-year-old and the Canadian 47-year-old, who stole hearts as Capeside High School sweethearts Joey Potter and Pacey Witter on The WB's hit teen soap, Dawson's Creek (1998-2003), have rekindled their romance... on screen, that is!
The Our Town thespian has written and stars in the trio of flicks, marking her fourth, fifth, and sixth directorial features. In Happy Hours, Holmes and Jackson portray former lovers who cross paths years later and rekindle their romance while navigating the challenges of careers and family responsibilities.
"It's like a dream come true to be working with so many of my wonderful friends on this film," Katie gushed to thescholarlynote.com. "And working with Josh after all these years is a testament to our friendship. Happy Hours is a love story that includes so many people I adore. We can't wait for everyone to see what we make!"
Life imitated art when Holmes and Jackson got together in real life during the first two seasons of filming Dawson's Creek. "I'm just going to say that I met somebody last year, I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable," Katie confessed to Rolling Stone back in 1998. "I feel so fortunate because he's now one of my best friends. It's weird, it's almost like a Dawson-and-Joey type thing now."
But don't worry, fans! Joey and Pacey didn't get back together for real (or did they?). The on-screen couple has moved on to new love interests. Holmes ended her six-year marriage to Tom Cruise in 2012, while Jackson officially parted ways with Jodie Turner-Smith after five years of marriage in May.
The Happy Hours cast includes a powerhouse ensemble: Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin. Trudie Styler, Sting's second wife, is one of the eight IMDb-credited producers on the ambitious project. Holmes has also enlisted her Our Town castmates John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., and Sky Smith to appear in her trilogy.
The Rare Objects director-star concluded her role as Myrtle Webb in the Kenny Leon's Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which ran from October 10-January 19 at the Barrymore Theatre in Midtown Manhattan.
Dawson's Creek fans have gone wild upon reading Katie's announcement on Instagram. "Joey and Pacey forever!" declared @jrfr0st. "Joey and Pacey end game," agreed @hapagal73. "@shanja12 shared a funny meme of Dawson crying. "Well, at least we didn't have to wait for our lives to be over!" quoted @einheinser the theme song, Paula Cole's 1997 hit I Don't Want to Wait."
Earlier on Monday, Joshua had the look of love as he listened to Katie directing him and blocking their outdoor scene at a rehearsal. Both Jackson and Holmes are busy parents-of-daughters, with Katie's Instagram followers buzzing about her latest project.
"We didn't have to wait for our lives to be over!" exclaimed @sonolaniki, referencing the theme song once more.
Hear me out: you and Josh fall in love in real life," joked @mrsblumenfeld. Well, at least we got to see this reunion on screen!
