Julia Roberts Revisits 'Notting Hill' with Her Iconic Look, but No Sequel in Sight!
JULIA ROBERTS' NOTTING HILL SECRET REVEALED: HOLLYWOOD STAR'S ROMCOM ICONIC LOOK WASN'T JUST FOR SHOW
It's been 26 years since Julia Roberts stole our hearts with her iconic line, "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love me," in the beloved romcom Notting Hill. But what you may not know is that the Pretty Woman star was initially terrified of taking on the role of Anna Scott, the hot-tempered Hollywood actress who falls for humble bookstore owner William Thacker (played by Hugh Grant).
In an exclusive interview with Vogue last year, Roberts revealed that she almost turned down the part due to her discomfort with playing a movie star. "Honestly, one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was [Notting Hill]," she confessed. "I was so uncomfortable! I mean, we've talked about this so many times, but I almost didn't take the part because it just seemed—oh, it just seemed so awkward. I didn't even know how to play that person."
But Roberts' concerns went beyond her acting abilities. She also had issues with her costume, which she described as "glamorous" and "awkward." In fact, she was so un comfortable with the character's wardrobe that she took matters into her own hands for a key scene.
"I sent my driver back to my flat to grab some of my own clothes," Roberts revealed. "He came back with my flip-flops, my cute little blue velvet skirt, a T-shirt, and my cardigan. I was like, 'This is me!'"
Despite these initial struggles, both Roberts and her co-star Hugh Grant received Golden Globe nominations for their performances. And it's clear that the film has stood the test of time – after all, who wouldn't want to revisit the charming world of Notting Hill?
And now, it seems that Roberts has revisited her West London stomping ground once again. The Hollywood star was spotted at celebrity skin care expert Keren Bartov's luxury clinic in the well-heeled London enclave on Wednesday evening.
Roberts looked radiant as she made sure to get a little pampering before taping an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. And it seems that she took inspiration from her character Anna Scott's iconic look for this visit – teaming a camel-coloured sweater with a beanie hat and shades, just like in the movie.
But don't get your hopes up for a Notting Hill sequel just yet! Last year, writer Richard Curtis revealed that Roberts had refused to take part in a follow-up film because her character was supposed to get divorced. "I tried doing one with Notting Hill where they were going to get divorced," Curtis shared. "Julia [Roberts] thought that was a very poor idea."
The revelation has left fans of the original film wondering what could have been – but it's clear that Roberts made the right decision. After all, who wants to see their beloved characters go through a messy divorce?
And as for Roberts' future projects, we can only imagine what she has in store for us next. But one thing is for sure – with her quick wit and charming on-screen presence, Julia Roberts will always be our girl.
