Julia Garner Confirms Madonna Biopic's Revival: What’s Next for the Iconic Project?

Julia Garner has revealed the much-delayed Madonna biopic is 'supposed to still happen'

MADONNA'S BIOPIC BOMBSHELL: Julia Garner Spills Tea on Long-Overdue Film

In a shocking revelation, actress Julia Garner has confirmed that the much-delayed Madonna biopic is still very much alive - and we can't help but wonder what took them so long. The 31-year-old star, who signed on to play the Queen of Pop in the film last year, dropped the bombshell on the SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.

And let's just say Julia had to bring her A-game (and her dance skills) to impress the one and only Madonna during her audition. The actress recalled having to learn how to dance from scratch and then performing in front of the music icon herself. Talk about a daunting task! "I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it," Julia admitted, revealing that she wasn't exactly a trained dancer at the time.

The actress, 31, signed on to the project last year which has been in development since 2020, with Madonna, 66, slated to direct and write the film

But what really caught our attention was Julia's sassy attitude during her audition. She said: "I wasn't a trained dancer and I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of [Madonna] and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing. And sing with her!" Wow, we're getting major " Desperate Housewives" vibes from this one.

But what really sets Julia apart is her confidence - or should we say, her Madonna-esque bravado? She boldly declared: "I just thought what would Madonna do, which is convince you that she deserves to be in this room, and I owned it. I was like, 'You can take it or leave it. But if you leave it, then that's on you'." Yikes, we're getting a little intimidated over here.

When asked about the film's long delays, Julia simply shrugged: "Anything that's great, takes a long time." Ouch, burn! We guess that means this biopic is worth the wait - but we can't help but wonder what took them so long to get it together.

Julia confirmed the film is still in the works and recalled having to dance in front of Madonna during her audition

Now, for those who don't know (but should), Madonna has been trying to get her life story made into a film for years. She's been working on a project called Who's That Girl, which was originally titled Little Sparrow and had Diablo Cody as co-writer on board back in 2023. But after months of development hell, the Queen of Pop pivoted and focused on her international Celebration tour.

Fast forward to last year when Madonna penned most of the film with Erin Cressida Wilson, and guess who she eyed for the lead role? That's right - Julia Garner! And we're thrilled that it all came together in the end. But what really caught our attention was a post from the Queen herself on Instagram last November.

Madonna vented her frustration over roadblocks in her pursuit to bring her film to life, writing: "After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film, I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged." Wow, we're feeling the drama!

But what really sets this apart from other celebrity rants is Madonna's resilience. She noted that she'd been working on the project for four years, with people constantly telling her to "downsize, down scale, think smaller". But the Queen of Pop wasn't having it: "I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way." Ooh, burn!

But here's the thing - sometimes, a little frustration can be just what we need to fuel our creativity. And Madonna seemed to agree, writing: "Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going! We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!! Art = Survival We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller."

And now, she's asking her nearly 20 million followers a question that has us all on the edge of our seats: "Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature film?" What do you think, folks? Should we get ready for a biopic or a series about Madonna's incredible life?

On the film's delays, Julia added: 'Anything that's great, takes a long time' (pictured with Madonna on her Celebration Tour in 2023)
