Josh Brolin Shocks with Bold Fake Tattoos Post-Ink Removal!
JOSH BROLIN UNRECOGNIZABLE: VETERAN ACTOR TRANSFORMED FOR NEW THRILLER
In a shocking transformation, Josh Brolin has been spotted on set of his new thriller Whalefall, looking almost unrecognizable with elaborate faux tattoos covering his chest, arms, and back. The 57-year-old actor's drastic makeover is the latest development in his highly anticipated role as Mitt Gardiner, a character who finds himself swallowed by an enormous sperm whale.
According to insider sources, Brolin was seen sporting dark jeans, a faded purple baseball cap, and a confident swagger that only comes from being a Hollywood A-lister. But it's the tattoos that have left fans buzzing – more than one year after he removed his real tattoo on his shoulder blade in an Instagram post that showed him getting rid of "bulls**t" with a laser treatment.
Whalefall, based on Daniel Kraus' novel, follows Jay, a young scuba diver on a mission to find his late father's remains. But things take a dark turn when he gets sucked into the mouth of an 80ft, 60-ton sperm whale, leaving him with limited oxygen and a desperate fight for survival.
As Jay navigates this nightmarish scenario, he discovers a reason to keep living – but we won't spoil it for you just yet. The film's producers have dubbed it "The Martian meets 127 Hours," which gives you an idea of the intense, thrilling ride that awaits audiences in theaters soon.
Brolin is set to star alongside Austin Abrams, who will play Jay, and Elisabeth Shue, Jane Levy, John Ortiz, and Emily Rudd are also part of the talented cast. But it's Brolin's transformation that has everyone talking – especially given his previous tattoo removal revelation on Instagram in May 2024.
In a post that showed him posing in front of a black van with the "Removery Tattoo Removal & Fading" logo, Brolin flashed a cheeky hand gesture and captioned it: "Thank you @removery for getting this bulls**t off my back. And my bro @tobymorse Early morning session." Little did he know that his new role would require even more ink – and in the most unlikely of places!
Daniel Kraus, author of the novel Whalefall, was over the moon when Deadline announced Brolin's involvement in March. "Nearly all of my books have been optioned at some point," Kraus reflected in his newsletter, "but very few get shot, and I wouldn’t have necessarily bet on the book that’s mostly set inside a whale would be the one to get there — and attract so much talent." He went on to praise Brolin's dedication, saying, "Not only Brolin, but Austin Abrams (playing Jay), who I’ve gotten to know as a good dude who is super-super-super serious about this role."
The film's production kicked off earlier this month, with director Brian Duffield at the helm. And judging by the behind-the-scenes photo shared on X by @BloodyDisgusting, Brolin has certainly thrown himself into his character – sporting a goatee and ribbed green hat to complete the Mitt Gardiner look.
Stay tuned for more updates on Whalefall as it makes its way to theaters in the coming months. One thing's for sure: with Josh Brolin at the helm, this thriller is going to be one wild ride!
